A big welcome to the gang also from me Otisblue, great to see new people join in our conversations.

And a great time to be following BHX, the airport is now growing faster than ever before and this is exciting, however we will face big challenges on the way to make BHX a great successful international airport.

:)

Thanks BrumX and agreed, a great time for BHX at the moment and all being well the growth will continue.

Just checked the Vueling website and Malaga and Alicante look to be bookable in 2018. Malaga x 2 per week in Feb and March, Alicante X 2 per week in Feb/Mar going to X 4 per week in Apr/May/Jun.

Both are only bookable via Barcelona which is the only route now showing past March :(

It's a shame really both Vueling and Norwegian came and had a go but somehow seemed to find the competition too stiff and have retreated.

Would imagine Jet2 were the final nail in the end but at least it's an overall gain for BHX as Jet2 seem to have a long term plan.

Whats a shame is the competition was not really their when they started. They took the risk of operating routes others shied away from, proved a market existed and in stepped the UK airlines with their known names and.advertising budgets. It does make you wish UK airlines would also lead and risk coming out of their comfort zones.
You can almost see it now.Primera are a success .Virgin,Thomas Cook or whoever wake up.Bye bye Primera.

Im sorry but what routes (Apart from Paris ORY) have DY and VY took a risk. Barcelona, Alicante, Malaga, Tenerife and Las Palmas is hardly taking a risk. That is exactly why these airlines are slowly going away, becouse they didnt take the risk of launching routes such as Oslo, Stockholm, Valencia, Lisbon, Helsinki, i could go on.

So good on Jet2, they took the risk and as well as launching the popular sun routes, have also launched some city destinations too and the same goes for Monarch. So on this occasion British really is the best.

Airlines such as Norweigan and Vuelling and hopefully Primera in the future hopefully will actually wake up and see that Birmingham passengers are actually a little bit more than just sun sea and sangria ;)

Norwegian brought Madrid back to the departure boards and it's a shame they pulled that one. Would Monarch, Ryanair or Iberia be flying BHX-MAD today if Norwegian hadn't started?

Will be sorry to see Orly go.

Forgot about Madrid, but still between the two of them only managed Madrid and Paris ORY, mmmmmmmmmm

Im sure Iberia would of been on the route even if Norweigan hadnt started.

Please correct me if i am wrong but were Madrid or Barcelona being served at the time Norwegian started?
As for the sun routes.particularly Spanish routes.it has been well documented on this forum how much they had declined in recent years whilst increasing from other airports some very close. Now look at them.
I agree they possibly missed an opportunity with the city routes but maybe seeing that they had helped wake the "local"airlines up to BHX's potential they thought it a risk to far.

Barcelona already served by Monarch and Ryanair. Madrid wasnt though.

But Jet 2 in my opinion would still have started BHX operations last year with or without DY and VY and would of woke up the sun routes anyway.

At the end of the day it's all ifs and buts. Those of us who occasionally go to view the aircraft can look forward
to an endless steam of Monarch and Jet 2 737s:yawn:

You stole my thunder there Brum X.
Ditto.

Risky routes are what we need to aee at BHX. Yes competition in less risky routes is necessary but real long term growth comes from a more extensive route network not the same old point to point services for which there is a finite market and a finite market means the best service and brand always wins.

People also need to stop looking at what is happening with norwegian and Vueling as a Birmingham situation. Both have pulled nearly all of their none-core routes out of every U.K. Regional airport! Yes we wouldn't want to lose them from BHX but by the looks of it, thesecroutes would have been lost regardless of how good Birmingham was.

Except CWL it seems but Vueling is the only low-cost airline there (apart from a very small Ryanair presence from other bases - 2 low frequency routes) and it would be instructive to see their reaction if another lo-co pitched up and competed on their routes which Ryanair doesn't at the moment. Sorry for going slightly off BHX topic.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
