I've been looking online to see if i can find the Strachan Sports flight charter to Georgia for the Wales football match tomorrow and it looks like it didn't happen which is a shame. I know the team departed yesterday on a Titan A320 and i'd imagine that many fans are making their own way may well have used KLM and been caught up in today's cancellations so let's hope they get there for the game.
Despite the supporters' aircraft not apparently operating Wales still beat Georgia 1-0. They have a showdown with Ireland in Cardiff on Monday with the winner guaranteed second spot in the play-off group. The winner could even top the group if other results go their way.

The group winner will automatically qualify for the World Cup Finals in Russia next summer. The runner-up will play another group runner-up for the right to go to Russia. If Wales do make it there will be a nice little bonus for CWL with supporters flying out.

Flights to Russia now they'll be something different.

Given that Ryanair have cancelled so many of their regular flights this autumn it's a touch surprising that they are operating these one-off flights.

I'd imagine that they are earning quite a lot from them. Yield would probably be good and many of the flights may have been full up early on. The surprise for me was the amount of City Jet flights wasn't expecting so many.

If that is the case it shows that Ryanair didn't cancel flights merely because of pilot shortage or for the early ridiculous claim that it would improve overall timekeeping.

If the regular flights they cancelled were those with lower yields that's obviously understandable, assuming there really was a need to cancel any. What those who had their regular flights cancelled would be even less pleased about about is the knowledge that Ryanair found enough pilots to operate one-off flights, because the yield was good, but raised two fingers to many regular travellers who had their own flights cancelled.

I suspect that the extra CityJet flights are because the match has assumed such importance with both countries in with a chance of going through to the Finals in Russia. Had it been a 'dead' match or if Ireland had been out of contention the interest from the Emerald Isle would have been much less.

I had a quick look through the routes and flights that have been cancelled and it does suggest they've cancelled mainly lower yielding flights mainly city to city flights rather than winter holiday flights like TFS or LPA.
Yes the game essentially being winner takes all definitely has given it a boost which is good for the airport. Though I have to say as a Welshman I hope my fellow Celts won't be going back to Dublin planning flights to Russia at Wales expense!

If Serbia beat Georgia at home this evening as they ought to do they will top the group and Wales v Ireland will be for runners-up and a play-off with a runner-up country in another group. If Serbia draw or lose and Wales win Wales will be group winners. Ireland has to win to stand any chance of topping the group or being runners-up. A draw would not even see them as runners-up.

If Wales do finish runners-up they will have a two-legged play-off (matches to be played between 9 and 14 November) meaning that there will be bound to be more flights from and to CWL. Clearly it will depend on how 'big' in football terms the opposing country is. So far Italy, Denmark and Northern Ireland are confirmed in the play-offs. Italy would be a huge game and potentially would bring a lot of supporters.

As a Welshman it would be great to see Wales qualify automatically for the World Cup even though i'm not much of a football fan.
As an aviation enthusiast seeing airlines that aren't regulars to the airport and CWL getting a boost during one of it's quietest month would be also great. Depending on who it would be and if Wales gets to the playoffs then Italy and Denmark would be the best options for the airport and the enthusiasts as there would be the potential for bigger aircraft as well as airlines we don't really see especially if it was Denmark SAS and Norwegian come to mind with them.
At the time of writing the score is 1 nil to Ireland, so fingers crossed Wales can make a comeback!

I've noticed on the departure boards a Flybe charter to Parma Airport PMF, Italy.
Departure is 24th February 12.30 BE8010 and the return is 25th February 22.50 BE8011.
I'm pretty certain the passengers will be Cardiff Blues rugby team as they are playing Zebre rugby club at 14.00 in Parma on Sunday and i know Cardiff Blues use Flybe to charter their flights. Looking at the schedule it looks like it'll be a non based aircraft.

Thanks Severn.
I checked the departure boards on Tuesday and those 2 Flybe E175s weren't on there then.
Nice to see Flybe getting more involved in the rugby airlifts.

It's possible that the 16.30 Flybe departure may have been the Welsh team. The airport posted photo's of them arriving about an hour before the departure time.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
