Flown Ryanair many times and the good ones far outweigh the bad. They have come a long way in the last 18 months or so. Far more amenable, even to the Travel Trade, which is in turn proving beneficial for them

Now I have a little more time this morning let's look at this in a bit more detail. I have absolutely no problem in the way Ryanair charge you for anything and everything as that allows you to package together exactly what you want and means the airline themselves aren't as worried for example about whether someone is going to turn up with a checked in bag on the day that they didn't know about. It helps them with their overall costs and preparation. Rewind 18 months or so when Ryanair were at that point trying to ban the travel trade from adding fees when selling their products. The TMCs have to make money just as an airline does so why was, and I repeat was, it right for Ryanair to charge for their extra services but a TMC couldn't - it wasn't. Several years ago Easyjet took a lead and realised just how important the Travel Trade are to help sell their product, something Ryanair realised too about 18 months ago. So yes by all means sell it cheap, but don't then make it difficult to market and sell your product. The business community particularly still want their travel organised by a TMC and Business Travel is the lucrative part of the industry compared to the vast majority of the leisure. It is no coincidence in my eyes that as Ryanair embraced the trade then their overall reputation has improved at the same time. Yes they are not perfect, who is? But they are going in the right direction and I personally have no objection to selling their product or even flying with them. Bringing all this back to LBA, they are putting a lot of flights and pax through LBA these days, so that's a tick from me in my interest box alongside the one that also now exists in the work related box. Yes they still have other issues with the unions but even there Ryanair have started to give some ground. You can't go from one extreme to the other overnight so credit to them that they are slowly addressing the issues that have plagued them over the years. BA are suffering because they feel they can just do as they please because of their name, and even they are being caught out as others step on their territory. It has perhaps started later than it should have done but Ryanair are on with their corrective measures. If I had been typing this 18 months ago then you would have just read a completely opposite argument, so we'll done Ryanair

morning f/66
i wonder,if one day ryanair would try for slots from heathrow, that would shake BA up. just a thought.and i am sober (ish)

Morning SM
I am not sure the cost of slots, if they could ever get them, at Heathrow really fits their business model but I have to say I like your thinking. BA and Ryanair are still very different beasts but one is going forwards and one going backwards. Feel free to draw your own conclusions on which I feel is which!
Have a good weekend

You never know what steps MOL would like to go to p**s off Willy Walsh....but no doubt he will continue to do what Ryanair do well.....and they are doing it very well......I would always choose them over Jet2’s ridiculously over priced flights any day.
As regular flyer on the LBA to AGP route not sure about Jet2 being ridiculously over priced.
Not sure how your comparing prices. We booked our 1st November Jet2 return flight from AGP to LBA last May. Our total price for the outward and return leg was £404 including hold seat reservation, the full works, yet booking today will be just over £600, the return leg seat price is now £184 on its own, (we paid £99)
Ryanair flights for November not even yet released, when they are, your comparing Ryanair prices with 9 month old Jet2 prices, as we can see are now 50% higher, which is the same increase on our flights for next month, again booked last May.
I have over the years looked at Ryanair's prices and compared to those already paid to Jet2 and usually not much difference, if you check on Ryanair release date, you have already missed Jet2 low prices.

It's like now...we are flying on Thursday 22nd of this month and the only flight that day was with Jet2 at £175.00 per person......flying back with Ryanair on the Monday morning again the only flight of the day back to LBA and only £65.00 per person....in the good old days we would have gone with Monarch but enough said about that......it was cheaper to go from MAN but we can't be bothered travelling the 1h 30m there....Ryanair are always cheaper than Jet2 on the same route on the same day....my daughter is flying out to Faro from LBA with her 2 children and husband in June and flying with Ryanair saved them £451.00….same day same route.

I fly to Faro a lot from Liverpool, and normally speaking Ryanair are cheaper than Easyjet.

I make the point again what was Jet2 price 9 months ago, we know their model is to increase prices sharply once 50% of the aircraft sold, I would suggest less then half todays price, in addition, the school holiday period, certainly for all my grandchildren.
On our last Jet2 flight to AGP my sister decided to come at the last minute, (one week before) the seat price was 4 times what we had paid. System said only 4 seats left and she bought one and the plane totally full.

If Jet2's fares were that prohibitive they wouldnt be carrying the pax thet are or have the LF's they do. And its one hell of a profit they make

True, but how much of the LF are package tours versus seat only. I`d hate to see them go the way of Thomsons, or whatever they are called this week

I can honestly say I have no idea what the split of Inclusive holiday vs seat only pax is But what I do know is they have been very astute in creating the holiday division to ensure flights are filled and it's clearly working. And if that means we have the flights we do from LBA then I for one am not going to question that decision. Things seem healthy in the Jet2 camp right now.

We flew on LS 185 on Sat on a full (189) B738. There were 2 coaches and 2 minibuses for Jet2 Holidays. There would 25 on our coach. I would be surprised if more than 80 people had booked on a holiday. (I can't guarantee that)

I'm looking at going to either Gran Canaria or Lanazarote for a weeks holiday next month and Jet2's flights are way more expensive than the Ryanair option from Leeds/Bradford.

To be honest over the years I've used both airlines several times now out of Leeds and never had a problem with either of the products they offered online whilst booking or on-board the aircraft. Neither have I experienced any delays or cancellations. I must be the lucky one!
Got to admit due to reliability reason during winter months Ryanair win for me though, just because they will CAT3 on runway 32 if available where as we know Jet2 suffer with there Boeing 737-800 & Boeing 757 fleets.

The problem with Ryanair is that if it is operated by an "away based aircraft", you can end up getting at the arrival airport not much before Midnight. Alright if that is where you are based but if you are an independent traveler it can cause problems. We are flying to Pisa in May and arrive there at 11.15pm but fortunately we are on an organised tour so transport is arranged to pick us up. I wouldn't book a flight for that arrival time (unless it was my homebound leg) as I do not trust some of the private transfer companies to be there to pick you up, especially if you are delayed.

I am with you on that one and at least because we have a choice of carriers on most major sun routes from LBA these days you can usually find the times to suit even if you mix airlines out and back. Paying a slightly higher fare is worth it for better times and avoiding the risk of added costs at the other end. But depending on any individuals personal schedule these late flights can be beneficial. Can be a real drag if it means the only alt is to then get up at 2am for a 6am departure. Something I have to look forward to in a few weeks time, albeit on this occasion not with Ryanair and not from LBA. And thats because it was price that won hands down on this occasion

Cheap taxi to Pisa city centre [ about 4 miles] and a cheap overnight hotel there and off on a train to lots of places around Italy from the railways station in the morning.

You have just increased the cost of the fare by about 40%, so can become more expensive.

I appreciate it will depend on personal preference but you have a lot to think about apart from the base fare.

  • Ryanair summer 2018 programme looks like its nearly finalised with 3+ based aircraft, 86+ weekly flights on 25+ routes.
  • We still have a 2 gaps appearing in the based aircraft schedules on Tuesday between 12:20-17:15 & Fridays between 12:00-15:40.
  • The aircraft that dose both the Ibiza flights on Thursdays & Sundays seems to do a w-leg rotation operating Ibiza-Marseille-Ibiza before it eventually returning to Leeds.
  • So far the extra flights that have normally been added to operate during peak summer months of July & August to Faro, Palma, Ibiza & Arrecife are still not appearing in the system whilst its also looking like the Montpellier route may have been dropped. Lets hope these get re-added at some point!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
