If the Welsh Government did have an influence it's poor judgement on their part not to have left it to the airline and poor judgement on the part of the airline for listening to the government given the subsequent reduction.
I'd have thought the political capital would have been too tempting for them for them not to have a daily service from the off. I've also noticed the cuts for those 7 weeks haven't been reported in the press so apart from aviation enthuiasts like us and the customers no one has noticed yet.

Personally Jerry I think the only time that poster had a flight booked was in his head.

I’ll be on the service come May and I’ll report back with the loadings before the official stats are out.
Unfortunately for me the service flies the wrong way! Hopefully one day i'll get to use it!

QR could email affected pax and give them a 'schedule change' meaning they fly out a day earlier/ later and catch an earlier/later connection meaning they actually end up at their final destination on the same day. This would only work on destinations with 2 or more flights from DOH a day. BKK, KUL etc

It may well be possible in the future then that Cardiff's winter season is from November to beginning of June so it could be 5 weekly and go to 7 weekly from June to October. Actually coincidentally enough Iberia Express starts middle of June as well.

I wouldn't be surprised that with the Six Nations that there is a big waiting list for advertising same with the Autumn Internationals. Many of the advertisers will be on long term contracts as well. So it could be a while before the airport gets the chance to advertise at those games. TV advertising is also very expensive and personally if they have that in the budget i'd spend it on TV advertising over the bridge.
I know they are going to be advertising more over the bridge over the next couple of weeks so it's a case of wait and see what they come up with.

Another possible avenue would be sponsoring Cardiff City next season. They have a good chance of being in the Premier League next season and could possibly have some kind of tie up with their current sponsors 'Visit Malaysia'

No doubt this would be a very expensive form of advertising perhaps with very little benefit. I just like the idea of a Cardiff shirt with Qatar Airways on it

Be better sponsoring the stadium and i wouldn't mind seeing a Cardiff Blues shirt with it on as well!
I do think a lot of the advertising for the service is being done by the airport themselves with Qatar doing a bit mainly on their website, so i'd imagine their budget would be smaller than if the advertising was led by Qatar.

If that could be arranged and Cardiff City did get into the Premier League next season the reach would be vast. The Premier League is a worldwide brand and immensely popular in Asia, an area of the world of great importance to Qatar Airways. Might even get 'Colin' Warnock doing some local advertisements for the CWL service.:jawdrop:

I'll be honest i have looked at it as a one off but it's way too expensive. Hopefully i'll get to use the flight one day as i'd love to travel down under especially New Zealand.

Qantas have a big base in LA and they always full and quite a few rotations per day. Also many airlines do LA on the same routes.

Qantas operates Sydney to LAX to JFK.
Air New Zealand operates AKL to LAX to LHR and has 5th freedom for LAX to LHR .

Cardiff Airport to Doha flights cut due to new plane delays

Qatar Airways will start operating from Cardiff Airport with a reduced service due to a "delay in aircraft deliveries".

Direct flights to Doha, which start on 1 May, were due to run seven-days-a-week.

But this has been cut to five days until 18 June with no flights on Mondays and Thursdays.

The airline said customers with existing reservations were being booked on to other flights.

A spokesman said: "Due to a slight delay in aircraft deliveries, Qatar Airways will be serving Cardiff five times weekly until mid-June.

"After which we will move to daily flights as planned."

Interesting - Qatar have had all their 787's delivered so there can be no delays with those. I would assume then that the aircraft required to operate the Cardiff route would have come from another route that Qatar had planned to upgrade from the 787 to say the A350, and it is delays to deliveries of A350 that they are quoting.

Well they finally told us the reason for the cuts. Better late than never. May 2019 will be interesting !
I have read they are also sending some of their 787s to Meridiana so that could also be part of the reason in them having less 787s than originally planned.

They have had their first A350K pushed back from a Nov 2017 delivery to a Feb 2018 delivery. Probably not the sole reason but multiple changes and delays are knocking on through the system. I think they cancelled 4 A359s too I seem to think?

Further to this, BHX down to 5 weekly from daily. Adelaide and a few other routes seeing cuts too.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
