Going by Mr Kehoe's comments on Twitter it looks as if Iberia will have their moment on another date.

Great to see that they haven't been forgotten and it's probably the best way given the media storm around Emirates. This way they'll hopefully get some good exposure (y)

which is good to hear... I suppose they always new starting the same day as the emirates A380 was always going to be tough for publicity... still, it left almost full so didn't do too bad!

Eleventh New Airline Arrives Into Birmingham Airport As Iberia Express Launches Madrid And Beyond

Birmingham Airport has welcomed the arrival of Iberia Express serving four weekly flights to Madrid, with connections to more than 30 Iberia destinations across Spain, Portugal, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

Iberia Express will operate the return flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

All services carry British Airways codes and members of Iberia Plus programme as well as BA’s Executive Club can earn and redeem Avios when they fly with Iberia Express.

The Birmingham flights are scheduled to offer the best connections from Madrid to another 34 Iberia Group destinations, such as Dakar, Buenos Aires, Havana, Mexico City, Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, and São Paulo.

Madrid is a major destination for business travellers and tourists alike. Famous for its art museums as well as its football teams, Madrid is also a shopper’s paradise, boasting both name-brand shops and independent establishments offering the highest quality for affordable prices. Another attraction is the variety and quality of the city’s many restaurants.

Iberia Express will operate a 177 seat Airbus 320 on the Birmingham service, with Business and Economy sections.

Welcoming Iberia Express as it landed at Birmingham Airport was Paul Kehoe, the Airport’s Chief Executive. He said: “Not only is this great news as it increases capacity to Madrid, but Iberia Express is also a oneworld alliance airline and BA codeshare carrier, giving travellers enormous benefits.

“This is our 11th new airline to recently launch so we’re delighted that Iberia Express has also recognised the extensive business and leisure market in our region, and we welcome the strong Iberia brand to our growing network of airlines.”

Flying over to Birmingham on the inaugural flight from Madrid, Iberia Express’ Head of Revenue Management and Network, Trevor Martin, added: “Through the Iberia Group, we are able to offer those in the Midlands region a seamless transit experience through our Madrid Airport hub across Europe and Latin America.

“In addition, Birmingham is the UK’s second largest city and a popular tourism destination, has a thriving business economy and many universities so we are confident that we will see many people from Madrid using the service for business, leisure and to visit friends and family.”

Madrid now showing 3x weekly from Nov to March (Fri, Sun and Mon). It goes back to 4x weekly from March 24th.

Was it originally set at 4x weekly or is this the first time the winter schedules been released?! Good to see it still stays a year round service and should be as expected ...it's bloody cold in Madrid in winter lol

When winter first became available it showed the 4x weekly schedule that we see now. It has since been amended to 3x weekly, which is probably more sensible.

With Ryanair at 4x weekly and Norwegian yet to release winter (it was 12 months ago today that they released last winter) there could be plenty of competition.

Last winter we just had Norwegian at 2x weekly.

Iberia Express BHX-MAD now on sale for winter 2017/8 service increases from three to four flights a week, the summer MWFS days of operation continue into winter.

Very glad to hear! Flew with Iberia in December to Madrid, they were absolutely amazing.

You get assigned seats when you check in online with Iberia, but can change your seats for free - I changed mine and my family's seats to exit seats (extra extra legroom!!) both ways. Brilliant!

Perfect flight times for us and great staff, with a mix of Brits and Spaniards on board.

They even wifi. It can only be used to access Iberia's website, but that includes being able to watch TV shows on demand through their site!

Oh and the best thing? We paid about £60 each!! (about the same cost a LCC charges for extra legroom seats return alone... just saying!)

Anyone thinking of going to Madrid (which I thoroughly recommend, by the way) I certainly recommend Iberia Express!

I used the Iberia service last august travelling ALC-MAD-BHX and thought it was fantastic compared to the low cost equivalents, yet it was cheaper than a direct ryanair flight, it was also packed not an empty seat in sight.

Shame to see them go if thats the case :(

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
