Does anyone actually know the difference between Iberia short haul and Iberia Express?

I've flown with IBX from BHX-MAD and Iberia Mainline from LHR-MAD, both on an A320, and the service was identical.

They both offer hand baggage only fares and no free food/drink.... The only difference I could see was that Iberia mainline had a 'business class' option (by business class I mean the typical European carrier's version of business class which means a blocked out middle seat:hilarious:)

Probably more to do with the pay and conditions of the staff than any service difference.

I used the Iberia service last august travelling ALC-MAD-BHX and thought it was fantastic compared to the low cost equivalents, yet it was cheaper than a direct ryanair flight, it was also packed not an empty seat in sight.

How did you find connecting in MAD?

The flight times were about 4 hours apart due to the ideal ALC flight not having enough seats remaining (we needed 8) on the little CRJ1000 so it was a long wait, but the actual process of getting from the first aircraft to being where you need to be to get on the second aircraft was seemless

Slight schedule change this winter with the Mon service moving to a Tue. It's still 3x weekly with Fri and Sun the other two days.

As of April it goes back to the usual Mon, Wed, Fri and Sun.

Given the connectivity via Madrid to just about the whole Spanish speaking world, I am surprised that we do not see more than just 3 or 4 a week.

This is BHX butty, and i must say in many ways our airport is bonkers.

Meanwhile down at BRS, i am on the understanding Easyjet will be going x8 weekly and they also have Ryanair.

However Iberia are a good airline to have at BHX and Easyjet wouldnt offer all those spanish and latin american connections.

Mixed feelings about this one; while I’m glad to see the route continue given the others we’ve lost I think it’s a real shame that it doesn’t seem to be growing at all. Bizarre really given the numbers to MAD are pretty impressive considering it was unserved for years. With Monarch and Norwegian gone I thought Iberia might have upped frequency a little.

Ryanair don't operate to Madrid from Bristol, only easyJet.

Flew out on Friday
180 pax outbound - full !
Came back Sunday and about 10 spare seats!
This service could do with going daily pretty sure the demand is there with all the connections especially to South America.
BHX experience was good both ways, on arrival last night the passport queue was up the escalator and down the pier but it moved quickly with all e-gates open.

See what you can do Ian. Yeah this should be daily now, it has had a few years to mature and does well.

Was your trip business or pleasure ?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
