Something to drown my sorrows after the pathetic second-half display by the home team at Ashton Gate today. 3-0 up at half time with commentators speculating whether the game would finish 5 or 6-0. Instead BCFC (the red ones) gifted relegation-threatened Sunderland two own goals, one in the 92nd minute, to enable the Wearsiders to come back to draw 3-3.

By an unhappy coincidence 12 months ago this weekend Bristol City threw away a 3-0 lead at Derby County to finish that match 3-3 too.

The only consolation is that fellow promotion contenders Cardiff (last night) Derby and Fulham all threw away leads themselves to draw their respective matches, but as spectacularly as Bristol City managed.

As a long life supporter of Birmingham City I've learned the hard way that we could be up 10-0 at half time and there is still every chance of losing 🙄

Hopefully we can do you a favour tomorrow against Witton Rovers 😉

A glass of Portuguese Alentejo Red Wine.
Cheers !

Did you find out what the white was, Ray? And is the Malbec bottle empty now?

I watched 'Room 101', earlier on BBC iPlayer and was horrified to see Josh Widdecombe wanting to put real ales in. He said he prefers lagers :wideyed:.
Don't get me wrong, a crisp cold lager can be great on a hot sunny day. But they can't compete with the depth and complexity of flavours of a good ale.
Some of my favourites are -

Fullers ESB - a wonderful rich fruity ale that goes exceptionally well with cheese.

Wood's Shropshire Lad - a wonderfully rounded bitter with a hint of sweetness.

And one I only discovered last week -

Sadler's Peaky Blinder - a well hopped IPA.

I couldn't believe it either, I almost changed channels :rage:

Nothing can compare to a pint of a good quality ale.

My only annoyance with real ale is the sheer amount that come and go so quickly. I've had some extremely nice pints in the past but have never been able to find them again.

One that really stands out is Black Pig. I had a pint years ago in the old land side Wetherspoons at BHX and remember it as one of the nicest ales that I've ever had. I think it may have been a limited edition ale as I've not been able to find it anywhere since 🙁

Yes I saw that too although in fairness he seemed to be describing home brews which are themselves a world away from real ales.

I’m not much of a beer drinker personally but I’m quite partial to Butty Bach which I could quite happily drink all day. Any fans of real ale should check out the Whippet Inn, a small micro pub in Lichfield.

I've got a small bottle of English Whisky to go at. I've had it once before and was very nice indeed.

Mrs F did her legendary stuffed peppers tonight which combined perfectly with an Argentinian Malbec.

Following that we had a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc in front of BGT.

After a Chocolate Orange Baileys Mrs F retired to bed so I took the liberty of pouring three fingers of Talisker 🙂

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
