This is an interesting read on the analysis of the China market with route and airline analysis.

BHX appears as the 13th largest unserved city without a service to China. I believe the stat is put together from passengers arriving in China that originated from BHX. They show potential of 70,652 passengers travelled in 2017 from BHX to Chinese destinations ( Counted in both directions ). That equates to total of 1,359 per week ( if you assume its even split that's 679 outward and 670 inward bound). Obviously that's all China destinations but that shows the potential in whats expected to be a fast growing market over the next few years and beyond.

Chinese carrier long-haul seat capacity up 233% between 2010 and 2017; anna.aero reveals top 40 global cities without a route to China
Chinese carriers offered 21.67 million seats on long-haul services in 2017, up from 6.51 million in 2010. With so many airports around the world vying to be the next to gain that lucrative non-stop route to China, Jonathan Ford has looked at which unserved cities are going to be top of a potential route list for China's airlines.

Hope this link works but the full story is found on

This is one reason why we need Finnair...Chinese carriers to have lost interest in BHX for now. All the rumours recently circulating have been around MAN and EDI.

That will only show the passengers that started or ended their journey at BHX connecting through DXB, DOH, IST, FRA etc. It would be interesting to see the numbers if they could capture the many thousands each year making surface journeys to Heathrow, something which is much harder to do.

The fact that BHX has more passengers travelling to/from china compared to EDI, surely that puts BHX ahead but as we know airlines just chase the incentives.

Interesting stats though and show strong demand for a link to China direct from BHX. Fingers crossed.

We have four new routes starting this month, all towards the end.

VLM return to Antwerp from the 28th.

Jet2 commence Antalya on the 30th with SAS returning on Stockholm from the same date.

The 31st sees the start of Jet2 Larnaca.

SAS wins new route of the month for me, i really hope it works for them this time and we see further increases in frequency over the next year or so. Great to see Stockholm back on a regular basis. :)

Jet2 will only be a great success (y)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
