With 18 A320NEO/B737MAX aircraft in service/on order, you have to wonder where they plan on basing these aircraft.

Maybe I'm being arrogant but I can't see them launching TATL from anywhere else in the UK - airports bigger than BHX have plenty of competition already, and if BHX didn't have sufficient demand to keep Primera then how can any airports smaller than BHX?

Manchester, Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow all have competition. They could look at Leeds and Newcastle and Liverpool but all of them are effected to a certain amount of degrees by Manchester.
In the south they could look at Bristol but that is close to Heathrow, they could also look at Cardiff for Wales but i have a feeling that the Welsh government would want a scheduled carrier like Delta or United or Virgin operating US routes out of Cardiff.
They could look at building up STN on the long haul and short haul and use the NEOs and MAXs to expand their European routes.

...ian, I don’t know if you know more than I know, but I can’t help think you’re jumping the gun here a little! The head of route development from BHX made a formal statement about the prospects of Primera returning in 2019 only this week. I don’t see anything to suggest this has changed based on what I have heard!

I know you cannot divulge what might be confidential information Ian but i was thinking of booking a short break
in Barcelona in October.Do you think i might get a good deal with Primera or might i be better off booking with
one of the other operators?

Im travelling with them in October, LOL

Interesting that they state this 'expansion' would take the airport from 14mppa to 18mppa. How well could BHX really handle 14mppa given its current infrastructure.

Good to finally see some positive news regarding BHX though. Think we all needed some!

terminal 2 baggage facility is at near breaking point at the moment with the posibility it will have to close for major repairs soon

Going by the rumours

Air Arabia Maroc has been rumoured for over 12 months, it will be good to see it finally announced.
Cathay Pacific, not before 2020/21 if it happens.
Finnair, well how long has this one rumbled on for?
Air Baltic, first mention I've heard of them but it would be good to see Riga back.
Munich should see an extra rotation added at some point.

After a tough few months it's good to finally hear some positive talk again. Lets just hope there are discussions over transatlantic as I think most of us will be shocked if Primera return.

dont forget your new flights to Iraq apparently starting next month ;)

And considering BHX is supposed to be a 1 terminal operation, how can this be ? When we have arrivals and 2 different bits of arrivals in 2 different buidings.

We cant hold our excitement sam, LOL

By then BHX will be a distant memory and you will be surrounded by likes of 747/767/787/777s/A340s/A330s/A350 etc etc etc, oh yeah we will have our 737-300 going all the way to Iraq via Kiev :bored:

Does anyone know why these Iraq flights are happening?

Skyscanner.net says "Flights to Iraq continue to fly but it is unadvisable to travel at this time. Iraq is considered a war zone and visas are required by all travellers."

A quick search shows no direct UK-Iraq flights at the moment.

These are to the Kurdish part of Iraq and Iraqi Airways are operating flights to Gatwick and Manchester i believe.

BHX seem to have lost more services over the last couple of years than all other UK airports combined. Surely, they should be working with airlines and nurturing new routes, rather than taking a short term view.

Totally agree but this seems to have been the case for as long as I can remember.

There appears to be no issue in attracting new airlines and/or routes but they seem to struggle to hold a large chunk of them longer than a season or two. It says something that when a destination that interests me is announced my first thought is to book it that year before it disappears.

Air Arabia, Air Baltic, Finnair etc would all be fine additions but they need to stick around for the long term.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
