Thankyou Kevin! I have been working hard over the past few years to refine my settings and i think its finally paying off

I agree! The photos are sharp, well framed and the exposure is spot on.
The only thing I've noticed, is the 'frozen props' on the BBMF shot. When photographing prop aircraft, I use Shutter Prority and set the shutter speed to 1/320th second. It does risk camera shake with a long lens, but with practice the results are worth it. The problem is that I sometimes forget to switch back to Apeture Priority for fast jets.
Thanks again for sharing your great photos.

Kevin

Some great pictures there, looking forward to seeing more :)

Like Kevin I switch from manual settings to shutter priority for prop aircraft but the slower shutter speed often results in excessive camera shake and most pictures getting binned. It's well worth it though as you only need one to work out to get a very impressive picture and if you shoot in bursts it really increases the chances of something special.

Like everything it just takes practice.

Ahhh. After 54 days of constant sun and high temperatures, the traditional summer has arrived this weekend. Such a relief to have water droplets falling from the sky in vast numbers. The garden plants are smiling. Water butt refilling and tentative shades of green will soon return to the verges and lawns. Welcome back Summer.

Im with you on this one butty, i had a lovely night sleep last night with a nice cool breeze on my face all night. :joyful:

I want summer to come back this week though as i want to visit BHX next saturday to put my new camera to good use and have some practice for my plane spotting trip to BCN in october.

I haven't had the lawnmower out since May, no doubt it will be making an appearance very soon.

It's a shame that my vegetables and flowers don't grow at the same rate as the weeds (n)

I am a keen garden...too keen. Said hi to the wife when I came home as I sped through the house to say a lingering hi to the garden!

A weed is the right plant in the wrong place. I experiment with them and let them flower, see what they are like and then decide whether to keep them. But they thrive because they are native. Most plants are imported so our soils climate etc are alien to....

.....oh my gosh I am boring!

Tell you what though I might get a bottle out of my two cabernet sauvignon vines this year

I'd read that but bindweed, despite the attractive (to some) white flowers, is rarely the right plant anywhere according to my wife. She's the gardener, I'm the labourer who has to be supervised in case I pull up a weed that is in the right place and therefore not considered a weed. I once happily dug out an entire bed of what I thought were weeds in a rare moment of unsupervised labouring only to be told with some feeling that they were.....it was something in Latin. I did Latin at school for two years but never encountered those.

I threatened the grass with the mower and then the wicked rain came to its rescue.

Talking of bindweed, my pet hate is the mares tail that is growing all over the place - beds, lawn, drive etc etc.

We need to set up a gardening forum.

"Today at Brum Gardens we tender to our Dahlias, how to tackle bindweed and the problem of too many lavender plants suppressing the delicate perfume of aviation fuel. And Adam Frost visits a Garden in Essex to help with the harvest of Chateu Butty 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon. But first Scottie and his national collection of mares tail on his allotment next to runway 33. Come on Nigel...."

There could be a gap in the market here. A well presented wine of regular high quality vintage might well attract the attention of BHX-based airlines looking for something different for their premium cabins. The addition of crushed bindweed flowers might be the ingredient that leads to an outstanding wine.

Another thought is the creation of Butty Gardens on the grass by the main runway at BHX. If suitably fenced off from passing aircraft, and with perhaps a subterranean means of entry and exit, such a beautifully tended green space adorned with the widest array of flora would be an irresistible attraction for aircraft-loving allotmenteers to relax and quaff some of the Butty Cabernet Sauvignon. If only BHX had a CEO, you could pitch either or both suggestions straight away.

Got it sorted mate.

Might even get Primera back as En Primeur Airlines with a daily service to Bordeaux...

...seems appropriate as like all En Primeur it launches with a lot of bravado, promises the earth, but ultimately disappoints with everyone speculating "maybe next year will be better"

Chateu Butty 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon

Put me down for a case ;)

Talking of allotments I've often looked at those at the end of RWY15 next to Sheldon Country Park and thought that I'd like to secure a plot somewhere near to the southern fence.

A solid wooden structure, to house the wine rack and beer fridge, with some steps leading up to a rooftop terrace would make a cracking place to sit and watch the planes. I guess there may even be scope for growing a vegetable or two but I wouldn't want to move too fast :)

With such a lengthy 'to do' list for Finkle Towers I can just imagine the look on Mrs F's face if I told her that I'd taken on extra curricula responsibilities

Looks like you have to discuss thenpripritiea with Mrs F. To play on the famous line from Field of Dreams: build it and the case will come. Share the first bottle at the toppling out ceremony!

Watching the test match at present and thinking how civilized the crowd are with a pretty even split of mostly locals all mixed together supporting the two teams unlike football.I think Edgbaston is the best stadium in Birmingham with great views of the city skyline with plenty of cranes in view (note to Brumx).

St Andrews is obviously the next best stadium in Birmingham.

The strangest ground I ever went to was the old Sheff Utds Bramwell Lane which only had 3 sides with a Cricket ground as the 4th side which suited the Blues no end as they could boot the ball miles away towards the Pavillion I think Yorkshire used to play matches there
Worcesters New Road is my nearest and a lovely venue, back to the test.

Cricket fans aren't always so well behaved though. This example was at Headingley but similar scenes had occurred in the previous game at Edgbaston.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
