I see Ryanair to Pisa was cancelled today and it was also cancelled with Jet2 at the weekend....is this turning out to be a bum route for the airlines, anybody have any figures?
easyJet's Bristol-Pisa-Bristol flight was cancelled last Saturday. I have no idea why but it was the only BRS flight of any airline cancelled on the day. Sounds as if there might be problems at Pisa.

I think Ryanair Italian based cabin crew are on strike. A colleague at work got an e-mail last week telling him his flight from PSA to LBA was cancelled. He’s flying back from PSA into MAN tomorrow with EZY.

Italian summer holidays perhaps and no one there? Seriously in Italy factories shut down for 3-4 weeks for the summer holidays so who knows why...
A brief search of Google doesn't reveal any obvious problems at Pisa Airport.

So far as easyJet at BRS concerned they operate daily to Pisa and the next two Saturday outbounds are sold out as are a number of other days in both directions in the coming week so I doubt that it's a slumber in Pisa that's leading to passenger shortages. Last Saturday was the only cancellation on BRS-PSA in recent memory so with a Jet2 LBA-PSA flight also cancelled last weekend it might well have been something specific to Pisa Airport at that time.

Further to m to loads post, based on GDS findings in the Flybe thread, one route that concerns me a little just now is EI's DUB route. Most flights seem to have an abundance of seats available but of course GDS availability will never tell you the full story. If anyone has any update on how this route is performing then would be interested to know. BA though look to be continuing to get good loads. Sat 28Jul has 6 seats left outward and the inbound looks fairly good. Sun 29jul has 10 available outbound and inbound is good. MON 30jul the morning has 11 available outbound. The other 3 rotations look good without being close to full.

When I worked in Italy in the 80's/90's Pisa was known as the "Hidden Airport". It was basically a military airport and therefore there were no road signs etc showing where it was located. You entered through a industrial estate and the airport enterence was at the back of this estate.
Maybe a military exercise on during the week end, in the old days the airport often closed to civilian traffic, even at very short notice.

I see the Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP, Secretary of State for Transport, has been visiting Leeds/Bradford Airport today. He was interviewed by Harry Gration on both the BBC National News at 1pm and the local BBC Look North 1:30 edition regards improving transport Infrastructure in the North and sorting out the railways.

The airport posted the following tweet on its twitter page: https://twitter.com/LBIAirport/status/1025026750089252866

PRESS RELEASE

Secretary of State for Transport officially opens Leeds Bradford Airport’s Departure Lounge Redevelopment

The Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP, Secretary of State for Transport, has today (Thursday 2nd August 2018) officially opened phase one of Leeds Bradford Airport’s redevelopment.

Designed to offer more choice for customers with a modern and vibrant feel, a multi-million pound development has seen the entire departure lounge transformed with additional seating plus a range of new shops, cafes, restaurants, bar areas and airport lounges. The region’s largest airport has also recently been rebranded as Leeds Bradford: Yorkshire’s Airport.

The Yorkshire Lounge, The White Rose Suite and 1432 Club are three purpose built lounges with stunning floor to ceiling runway views designed to offer a leisure, business or first-class experience.

A brand new Cabin Bar, where passengers can indulge with elegant cocktails, small plates and craft beers has been added in addition to a complete refurbishment of the Saltaire restaurant. A dedicated area to cater for large groups has seen the installation of The Beer House that has replaced The Sports Bar.

Coffee lovers can now sit back and relax with works now complete on a brand new Starbucks facility offering its globally renowned coffee experience.

As well as developing its food and beverage offering, the airport has also invested in free non-commercial seating within the departure lounge.

Works on the terminal front are now complete and include an improved Meet & Greet car-park facility, which now allows passengers to collect their car right at the front of the terminal building. The airport’s official taxi service, Arrow Cars, have relocated with their new office and taxi-lane now on the terminal forecourt.

In March, the airport opened its first off-site car park, Viking Airport Parking. Situated just off the airport roundabout located on Warren House Lane, Viking ensures passengers have the smoothest possible start to their holiday. With members of staff on hand to park customers’ cars 24/7, shuttle buses transport passengers from the car park to the terminal in less than five minutes.

With an ambition to create an airport that matches the needs and requirements of the region it serves and the surrounding area, panels right across the front of the terminal building have been fully decorated with multi-coloured versions of Welcome to Yorkshire’s famous “Y” logo.

Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, who also viewed the Airport’s new winter resilience kit and hosted a private roundtable with a number of stakeholders during his visit to discuss a range of key regional issues, said:

“Leeds Bradford Airport is an important global gateway to Yorkshire, and this multi-million pound development will provide passengers from all over the world with an exceptional travelling experience to and from the region.

“We are working closely with Leeds Bradford Airport to ensure it has what it needs to offer greater choices for passengers secure further international routes and deliver more investment opportunities as we leave the EU.

“And today I welcomed discussions with local businesses and leaders on our transport investment strategy for the region, and how we can work together to open up Yorkshire to new global opportunities.”

Chief Executive, David Laws said: “We are delighted to welcome The Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP to the airport to officially open phase one of our terminal redevelopment.

“We have some exciting plans for the airport and want the people of our thriving region to get behind their airport to help us move forward. The more people use the airport the more successful we can be.

“Work continues to improve our route offering for both business and leisure services while we are now working on our plans for phase two of the terminal infrastructure which we hope to commence later this year on a new state of the art arrivals experience.”

I've put the above picture on the ATC thread as well. Our old Tower has a twin somewhere.

I'm looking at a trip to Canada next year, arriving into Calgary. Looking on various websites it looks like we can fly direct from LHR on either BA or Air Canada, both using dreamliners. If we do this hopefully we'd be able to use the shuttle from LBA! Has anybody any experience of Air canada? I've used BA in the past an have to say I wasn't impressed. Any alternatives available from Manchester? Someone has said that Westjet go direct from Gatwick but I don't fancy having to get to and from Gatwick. Another option seems to be Virgin into Seattle. Any thoughts anyone?? Thanks in advance

Depending on the time of year you could look at Manchester/Seattle with Thomas Cook or Manchester/Vancouver with Air Transat.

Have you looked at KLM via Amsterdam, I don't know if they have a service to Calgary, but I used them to Vancouver once when KLM operated from LPL, worked well.

How about Aer Lingus from Leeds/Bradford to Seattle via Dublin?

That way you'll get to save time sometime when arrive in USA, as you'll have done the pre-clerance checks at Dublin. So when you do eventually actually arrive into the USA your straight out of terminal avoiding the queues waiting to get through the boarder controls.

A very good point about the queues and via Dublin is often overlooked. At least you're heading in the right direction too, rather than going to Amsterdam first, although that could be a good option as well to be honest.

It may save time entering the US as the OP would be pre-cleared in Dub but won’t the OP have to go through immigration again on entering Canada?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
