Bristol does not have the displaced thresholds that we have for landing and is at a lower pressure altitude with an into wind runway and they have to restrict the number of passengers carried outbound and sometimes refuel at Manchester.
The also don’t have Manchester sucking the life out of them.

LDA for BRS and LBA are pretty much identical. Runway elevation is pretty much identical as well - BRS is at just over 600ft.

Just to let all you guys (and any other gals out there) know that 2 weeks ago I wrote to LBA with regard to the loss of the TUI base and formally notified them that at the next Consultative Meeting (mid Dec), I would be raising a formal query as to what has happened to bring about the loss of this base, particularly as it came out of the blue with no reference to it even being a possibility at the last meeting. This is the formal process for ensuring LBA are aware I will be asking and to enable them to ensure they are prepared to provide an answer. I have told them that whatever that answer is, I will be including it on this forum, and today I had a response confirming that the query had been passed to Aviation Development Director, Chris Sanders, who has acknowledged it and sent his thanks. So, around a month from now I hope at least to be able to clarify the position from the LBA management viewpoint. I don't suppose it will make any of us happy about it but at least it might clarify the situation.

TUI will blame LBIA - easier to hide behind that reason then the truth.
LBIA will say TUI closed for several reasons.

Who knows. Guess we will have to wait for White Heather and the response from the management team.

What is for sure is LBA will NOT have decided for TUI. TUI will have made that decision. There could be any number of reasons why they decided to scrap LBA flights such as charges increase, service delivery, remote parking or the lack of Airport Services which was reportedly canned by Swissport a month or two ago.

surely there should be a response from the airport to either confirm or deny what tui are alleging.

Airports and airlines don't usually publicly announce reduced operations they tend to only cherry pick the news they want you to know about. I will be shocked if there is a full explanation regarding the TUI base closure.

I always used Thomsons (as then) for my holidays as I thought they were the best. Since Jet2 holidays came on the scene, I have found that they have a superior product. In conjunction with what i have read about them on this forum, I don't bother with them now.
I think that they can't compete with Jet2 Holidays at LBA and have blamed the airport authority as an excuse for pulling out of an airport that has over 4m pax per year. They pay only "lip service" to operating from Regional airports, and in LBA/LPL case, think that we should use MAN.

What do TUI have against Leeds Bradford, I wonder ? It's as if the existence of this airport is a massive problem for them that they don't how to deal with.

They have never liked it due to operational issues !
It goes back to Thomson Holidays and Britannia Airways years ago sadly.

At times like this, I consider Britannia/Thomson/TUI showed more commitment to LBA during the 70s and 80s when its local programmes were based entirely on mid-afternoon 'W' pattern flights. At least these were consistent from year to year. Now TUI doesn't seem to be able to make up its mind from one year to the next. It's remarkable how Jet2 and TUI can peacefully coexist at Glasgow, East Midlands, Manchester and so on. But not round here.

But not all useable so irrelevant for landing especially in bad weather !
If we could have 7300 ft landing distance both directions the problem would be historical.
Probably impossible without massive investment but what is neeed.
Buy the Avro facility and knock it down build a new runway over that way re-model the road

That isn`t going to happen as we all know and whats the problem, Ryanair use the same aircraft as TUI
and they don`t have a problem.

Just looking on the 'net' at various aerial photos of the runway, from the tell-tale black tyre marks it's amazing how little of the runway is actually used, I appreciate that whichever end the the aircraft is landing at it'll regularly run on to the other end to use the turning circles but given the 'touch down marks' seem to be a fair distance in front of the piano keys it would seem a reasonable assumption to the non experts such as myself that the either the piano keys could be moved back, especially at the Chevin end, or alternatively why not land closer to the piano keys rather than what looks like half a mile in front of them? Is the 'unusable' area simply due to the Chevin? Could there be special dispensation for larger aircraft to touch down further back? No doubt this will have been discussed before - I know the chevin and glideslopes have - but from the photos it looks like from the Chevin end touchdown is literally one third of the way down the runway which obviously reduces the landing options.

If you look back in this forum this subject has been discussed several times.
What Ryanair can do is irrelevant to aircraft on the Uk register. Easa regulations are somewhat weird.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
