I'm guessing this is due to the problems at flybe?
If Flybe are too fit in DSA and CWL with non based flights then they are going to have to make cuts somewhere to accommodate them in the scheduling.

Also there could be the potential of EU competition rules coming into force I'm led to believe on AMS and CDG as AF/KL own part of Virgin who own part of Flybe so they maybe required to cutback on frequency on those routes.

They have sourced LHR slots in at 0430 out at 0650 !!

Is that confirmed or just a rumour?

All the articles I've looked at have said they haven't committed to a particular London airport yet and that they are actually looking at the possibility of serving multiple London airports due to slot constraints.

No surprise London was announced first - it is apparently JetBlue's largest unserved destination from both JFK and Boston.

The Jet Blue site has LHR listed only. Strange that the press release did not state the airport.

London in the next 18 months apparently and by the looks of it Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid and Lisbon next in line.

London in 2021 followed by the others when aircraft deliveries allow?

So we could be talking several years until BHX gets even a sniff of a return to NY?

So much for this :banghead:

Speaking to FlightGlobal at the World Routes show in Guangzhou today, Tom Screen, Birmingham’s acting aviation director, says there might be an "option" for an alternative airline to start a New York service in summer 2019. He says it is "more likely", however, that such connections will come in 2020 when JetBlue is likely to receive deliveries of Airbus A321LRs and WestJet is also expected to be in a position to start a Toronto-Birmingham service.

Ah well, at least Ryanair have increased Alicante (y)

Anybody else find that statement from JetBlue strange.Do Americans now think London is somewhere in the USA or possibly S.America,
Maybe it is an island in the Caribbean? Not much chance they have heard of the other Birmingham.

Now for something unrelated to JetBlue...Credit to jon01 for the information
A new series of charter flights went on sale today to Dubrovnik. Unusually they run weekly on Sundays from 9th Feb 2020 until 3rd May 2020 for cultural holidays in Croatia and Montenegro. Flights are expected to be operated by Croatia Airlines routing via Manchester
Would be nice if this became a regular thing.

Would Qatar step in on transatlantic at BHX? After that announcement from JetBlue, I really can’t see them heading to the midlands anytime soon.

Also, it it me or is the new CEO very quiet? I thought we might have heard a bit more from him on the Airports growth ambitions

Qatar tend to reserve any 5th freedom rights for their cargo flights.

Ray.i really don't believe you are:banghead: are you? You particularly and most of us new nothing would come of it.Anyway keep up the good work it must be difficult trying to keep up the forums moral.(y)

I definitely didn't get my hopes up over JetBlue, it was directed more towards those comments from the Aviation Director although I suppose we should be getting used to it by now :(

I can't work out whether that's a good thing or a bad thing?

Hi there all, I think that Birmingham airport only best chance hopefully of securing any further direct flights to the United States of America is either with Emirates or Qatar airlines and know one else, but that's my opinion and view and I could be completely wrong about both... Andyc

I think we all got used to the larger than life Paul Kehoe, and maybe, subconsciously at least, expected any replacement to be at that level as well.

Although under Kehoe's tenure he got a lot of new airlines in to BHX, a lot of them were one season wonders. I'd much rather have a CEO who targets say 1 airline a year and ensure they stay, than a CEO who gets 3 or 4 new airlines per year, but after a year or 2 most of them are gone.

How long has Mr Barton been in the role as CEO? I'd expect any new CEO to take up to a year to settle in, set up the teams they want to support them and implement any new growth plan they have. Also worth noting that airlines would have planned Summer 2019 long before Mr Barton became CEO, so any effort he's making to grow the airport likely won't be seen until Winter 19/20 at the earliest.

And any effort he is making to grow the airport is probably being undermined by the current political situation in the UK. Airlines and Companies are not investing in UK PLC. And why would they ??

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
