Why would Emirates want to operate a flight from Birmingham to any USA destination for? They would have no interest to do that, and why chose Birmingham after all the USA failures? No profit in it. I think this is just a pipe dream for some of the members on here, it's just never going to happen. Forget the USA and long haul, lets get flights to more European Capital Cities, we just need to be realistic now an build up the core routes!

Are BHX looking to bag a US big hitter to operate a service even when two of them took their toys home? Or should the airport be inviting those like Jet2 or TUI with access to adequate aircraft to sustain services even if just seasonal.....following the precedent of PIA or AI could be difficult with a Trump administration in place, Qatar and Emirates are under fire for allegedly bending the rules using shareholdings in smaller carriers like Air Italy to access the USA, in addition to mainline services.

I agree with Matt, it just seems a bit far fetched and bizarre for Emirates or other large carriers to begin US services from BHX. It just screams desperation in my opinion.
Right now, Birmingham needs to focus on getting direct routes to major European countries already mentioned. Here's hoping a certain orangey airline takes the gamble to serve some of these routes...

What is the current frequency at BHX for Emirates' Dubai route and which aircraft types operate? I know the A380 operates at least one daily rotation. Is it a 2 or 3-class aircraft?

The reason I ask is that I was at GLA earlier this week and saw a EK 380 there. At the check-in I noticed there was a counter for first-class travellers. I have a feeling that BHX might see 2-class 380s which perhaps is a surprise if GLA has 3-class.

Emirates is scheduled as twice daily, both flights operated by the A380. Currently, due to runway maintenance at Dubai the service is 11 times weekly with 3 of the lunchtime services not operating. I believe the service reverts to 14 x weekly from June.
Both services are operated by 2 class aircraft, although occasionally a 3 class aircraft is used. However, no first class seats are on sale.

Indeed ....I believe BHX and NCL are the only 2 UK services that have not included 1st, though I understand the some of the 380s out of MAN have now been permanently switched to 2-class aircraft so maybe a bigger trend?!

Many airlines around the world are pulling First Class from many of their routes. The cost conscious traveller is changing markets. Most airlines have probably a better chance of selling say 10 extra Business Class seats that were otherwise a 4 seat First Class cabin possibly fully empty. Those numbers were hypothetical I must add and for example/illustration only. First Class is becoming a luxury very few want these days

Some airlines will still keep First Class especially for certain routes but many of the cabins no doubt will be smaller than before.

Emirates seem to be keeping with F on many of their routes. The A380s have 14 suites compared with eight on the B777s.

Any idea if business passengers get upgraded to First on these flights or is the First cabin just not used?
That's a very good question and one I hadn't thought of before.
I'd always assumed that the first class service was not available from/to BHX, but this leads to other questions.
For example, If someone flies business class frequently from BHX to DXB, once they have earned enough points how can they redeem these by an upgrade.
The use of 3 class aircraft to BHX, tends to coincide with quieter periods, so any upgrade potential is a bit hit and miss.
My best guess, is that no upgrade from business to first is available from BHX. If this is the case, how would a frequent flier make use of the points they have earned? Either they would have to use them from a different UK airport, or on onward connections from DXB.

Just my thoughts.

Are some of the early build airframes not due for moving out of the fleet with new build replacing them? Hence the new visitors.....

once A6-EUW lands on todays EK39, first visit, will take our total up to 89 airframes!!

I'm sure EK have a plan to dispose of the older A380s, for some newer ones, but at present all their 110 A380s received are all in use!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
