I have seen an article today confirming that Ryanair are to close 4 bases in Spain, these being Las Palmas, Tenerife South, Arrecife and Girona.
So Ryan's love/hate relationship with Girona continues. Girona must be one of the most discarded and re-started bases they have used. I wonder can it be anything to do with landing etc fees or support from the local authority?
It doesn't say they are not operating to Girona, only that they are closing the base. Same applies to the Canary Islands.I am a little suprised with this move as Girona is a destination in its own right. It isn't Barcelona and never will be. It is rather too far from there to use it as an airport for Barcelona in my view but it is a great place to visit for a few days. Shame they have dropped it again. It is also a great airport to use for the northern end of the Costa Brava. We will have to wait and see how long it remains this time on their discarded airports.
Ryanair Airways have appointed Eddie Wilson to take over from MOL to run the airline.
At last years AGM the ITF union asked all shareholders to vote against the reappointment of MOL and the company Chairman.
A compromise has been worked out the Chairman has fallen on his sword and a new holding company has been formed with MOL as its head, allowing him to stand by his pledge he would only sign a one year contract with Ryanair, something the company refused to allow.
His new contract with the holding company is for 5 years, but enough elbow room for both sides to shorten this period.
This months AGM should still be heated as industrial disputes were at the forefront of last years AGM, EW has been the lead man in talks with the union, unfortunately disputes still playing havoc, on top of the pilots dispute, Spanish cabin crew staff are taking 10 days strike action this month.
Hopefully a new strong Chairman will be a buffer between MOL and all the new 4 CEO's.
It's no longer onsale. I expect you'll get an email either offering alternative flights or a refund.I have 27th December booked for a week.....paid for a few months ago!!!!!!!! Aresholes they are.
Ah, I have booked and paid for the whole family and 2 grandkids to fly to FAO on the 27th Dec for a week, are you saying its cancelled Severn as I havent had an email from Ryanair.
Well that will see our passenger figures dip below 4 million again no doubt. Let’s just be glad though that we haven’t lost the base entirely, unless quite a few other airports. Still, it will give the usual doom and gloom merchants something to bang on about in the café this weekend.
At LBA it is a pad at the Horsforth end, and a loop at the Yeadon end (as it has grass in the middle) so Offnt went around the loop.“a bit of heavy breaking then we pulled directly into the turning circle (or whatever it’s called).
