I have seen an article today confirming that Ryanair are to close 4 bases in Spain, these being Las Palmas, Tenerife South, Arrecife and Girona.

So Ryan's love/hate relationship with Girona continues. Girona must be one of the most discarded and re-started bases they have used. I wonder can it be anything to do with landing etc fees or support from the local authority?

Ironically it was Ryanair that first developed Girona when they flew in there marketing it as (sort of) Barcelona ..How times change and just shows there is no sentimentality with O`Leary. When you`re done...you`re done.

I am a little suprised with this move as Girona is a destination in its own right. It isn't Barcelona and never will be. It is rather too far from there to use it as an airport for Barcelona in my view but it is a great place to visit for a few days. Shame they have dropped it again. It is also a great airport to use for the northern end of the Costa Brava. We will have to wait and see how long it remains this time on their discarded airports.

It doesn't say they are not operating to Girona, only that they are closing the base. Same applies to the Canary Islands.

Ryanair Airways have appointed Eddie Wilson to take over from MOL to run the airline.
At last years AGM the ITF union asked all shareholders to vote against the reappointment of MOL and the company Chairman.
A compromise has been worked out the Chairman has fallen on his sword and a new holding company has been formed with MOL as its head, allowing him to stand by his pledge he would only sign a one year contract with Ryanair, something the company refused to allow.
His new contract with the holding company is for 5 years, but enough elbow room for both sides to shorten this period.
This months AGM should still be heated as industrial disputes were at the forefront of last years AGM, EW has been the lead man in talks with the union, unfortunately disputes still playing havoc, on top of the pilots dispute, Spanish cabin crew staff are taking 10 days strike action this month.
Hopefully a new strong Chairman will be a buffer between MOL and all the new 4 CEO's.

I didnt think he would go far.

“a bit of heavy breaking then we pulled directly into the turning circle (or whatever it’s called).

Runway Turn Pad
Definition
A defined area on a land aerodrome adjacent to a runway for the purpose of completing a 180-degree turn on that runway.

Ryanair has made some schedule changes to the LBA base this coming Winter. The base will be reduced from 3x to 2x aircraft.
Since the last schedule update, the following have all been taken off sale
- FAO (2x weekly) - sorry Offint!
- VNO (2x weekly),
- RMU (2x weekly)
- FUE (1x weekly)
The following have had schedule reductions:
- AGP has been reduced from 4x to 3x weekly
- ACE has been reduced from 3x to 1x weekly.
This means Ryanair will be operating 11x less departures each week from LBA this winter season!

Below shows the weekly flights in W19/20, compared to W18/19
Winter 19/20
DUB - 13x weekly (no change)
ALC - 6x weekly (+1)
KRK - 4x weekly (no change)
AGP - 3x weekly (no change)
GDN - 3x weekly (no change)
TFS - 3x weekly (no change)
WMI - 2x weekly (no change)
RIX - 2x weekly (no change)
MLA - 2x weekly (no change)
BTS - 2x weekly (no change)
WRO - 2x weekly (no change)
ACE - 1x weekly (-2)
Cancelled:
FAO
- 2x weekly in W18/19
RMU - 2x weekly in W18/19
VNO - 2x weekly in W18/19
FUE - 2x weekly in W18/19
LPA - 2x weekly in W18/19

Interesting this. Jet2 have just issued a "cautious" statement in relation to advance bookings for winter 19/20, admittedly not just from LBA. Don't think Boris is currently doing much to help what is already fragile customer confidence. Media also reporting the UK about to go into recession. Not particularly positive news all round but let's hope the RYR reductions help LS out of LBA at least

I have 27th December booked for a week.....paid for a few months ago!!!!!!!! Aresholes they are.

Ah, I have booked and paid for the whole family and 2 grandkids to fly to FAO on the 27th Dec for a week, are you saying its cancelled Severn as I havent had an email from Ryanair.
It's no longer onsale. I expect you'll get an email either offering alternative flights or a refund.

Well that will see our passenger figures dip below 4 million again no doubt. Let’s just be glad though that we haven’t lost the base entirely, unless quite a few other airports. Still, it will give the usual doom and gloom merchants something to bang on about in the café this weekend.

I bet MOL sat and watched that ITV show YorkshireAirport and thought hell that place looks like i s--t hole, might as well cut some routes and get rid of some staff there as they don't give a toss about my aeroplanes and passengers.

Also gives the airport owners AMP Capital another reason not to go ahead and build the terminal extension.

So win win situation for both!

At LBA it is a pad at the Horsforth end, and a loop at the Yeadon end (as it has grass in the middle) so Offnt went around the loop.

Thanks for the detailed information @Severn

The loss of the Faro route suggests then that the Faro base remains far from safe. We knew that the Canary Island bases were to close so losing them doesn't come as a surprise, particularly since LBA told us 3 months ago that Ryanair were reducing flying to the Canary Islands this winter. At least we still seem to have Tenerife. The problem is that Jet2 virtually hibernate in winter, so there may be periods of time where we have very little to these destinations. I seem to recall this isn't the first time either that Vilnius has been dropped for the winter. It was dropped before only a short time after it was first introduced then brought back later.

Comparing the schedules in November and in January;
FAO is 6x based in November and down to 3x based aircraft in January
TFS is 6x based in November and closes at the beginning of January
LPA is 4x based in November and closes at the beginning of January
ACE is 2x based in November and closes at the beginning of January

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
