Hi there all, I fully agree with Ianbutty point, Mr Nick Barton has been at the helm and Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport for 11 months plus, so what big announcements he had from him yet, nothing is the answer. Yes we may have had route announcements from easyJet and jet2 from Birmingham Airport, but that's all, still no direct route flights to the United States of America yet. I think that Mr Barton has got a tall order to deal with, but Birmingham Airport can't wait another 3,4,5 or more years for big announcements as its starting to fall way behind, it needs those fresh announcements now, otherwise it's going to be too late for it to start growing to level of its own master plan.

sorry Andrew, but I would much rather see an Easyjet base serving european cities from BHX, than a once daily flight across the pond. This is where the airport needs to concentrate on and replace the lost Flybe routes.

we might have demand for USA services for economy flights, but we dont have the demand for first class unlike LHR, MAN, that is where the TA Airlines make their money, so no airline currently is going to look at a BHX service.

Hi there Matt995, yes I understand what you are saying, but after twelve months in charge, even after dealing with them at Luton, I would have expected more than what we have a present, base or no base, more routes, even more frequency, but nothing.. Andyc

I think it may be a little premature to start on Mr Barton after only 11 months in the job, especially as he arrived during a very difficult period for aviation in general. I'm sure that he has plans but they will likely take time to filter through, Paul Kehoe suggested that BHX were talking to Jet2 for 5 years before announcing the base which shows the kind of timescales that they are working to.

What has really disappointed me is the lack of any sort of interview outlining his plans for the future and how he intends to deliver. We had that short segment on local news back in Feb (I think) where he mentioned a new N American service (which we have inevitably heard nothing more about since) but pretty much nothing else apart from the odd snippet. The only time I seem to see quotes is when there is a press release about the airport becoming more environmentally friendly.

I'm not sure that anyone expects him to transform things overnight but a bit of feedback about plans for the future would go a long way (y)

Sorry I was not having a pop at Mr Barton. It will take time. Just one thing after another and i see the city's all important B2B network diminishing. When he starting I was delighted to he Mr Luton on board and if anyone can in the business he can. We probably have the best there is. Need Street and others to keep close and bring the city along.

Summer 2022 is going to be a game changer....cannot wait.

Apparently a further tranche of S20 schedules will be available for sale from 6th Jan 2020

Anything on the cards for BHX or have we had our bit ?

If BHX gets anything it's probably frequency increases on certain routes like AMS or GLA or CDG i'd have thought.

Today should mark the end to the Embraer E195 operations, with BHX having the last 2 flights.

G-FBEJ arrived on BE106 from Amsterdam at 13:52, and has now departed empty to Bournemouth

G-FBEK is currently on route for the final landing on BE3010, from Paris, thus ending the last commercial flight by a Flybe E195
There should still be 1 left in the fleet until March so it'll probably be the standby aircraft for BHX until then I'd have thought.

The failure of Flybe would destroy domestic air travel for good you have to be seriously worried that they will fail having come so close before. Surely questions have to be asked about the deal that saved them in the first place.

If the largest domestic carrier in the UK is struggling then perhaps makes you wonder how viable domestic aviation is in the UK.

Thoughts and prayers for the employees. Not what you want to hear on a Sunday night :(

Agreed - seems like we're saying that about one airline or another every few months recently.

For Birmingham's point of view Flybe currently fly 19 routes during winter, of which 16 will be lost should the worst happen.

Basically Birmingham will have no domestic flights apart from Eastjet to Belfast, (Glasgow & Edinburgh or course start end of March)

will be a massive loss for BHX, along with SOU, EXT, NQY, CWL, IOM, BHD.

fingers crossed for them, and all their staff.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
