A muddled and contradictory blog.

The former Liberal MP begins by saying that LBA is in the wrong place with the implied assertion that had it been sited where Alan Cobham suggested nearly a hundred years ago the objections to expansion would be harder to sustain.

He believes that a rail link to DSA should go ahead and calls the decision not to do so 'perverse'. If this rail link is built it will improve access to DSA from the Leeds region, something about which the former MP seems enthusiastic, with an inevitable rise in passenger numbers and flights from there.

As with nearly all objectors to airport expansion (anywhere) his principal ammunition is climate change and the effect he and they believe that aviation has and will continue to have on the environment. If their contention has a basis, and many argue that it is greatly exaggerated in terms of the percentage of pollution and damage that aviation contributes, then displacing flights to other airports from an airport whose expansion you oppose will make no difference whatever to the overall amount of aviation pollution. Of course, this is a favourite ploy of 'nimbys'.

I have little local Yorkshire knowledge. I live in the West Country and certainly have nothing against DSA. I like to see all airports thriving and successful. What I am against is the sheer hypocrisy of many people when it comes to airports. This attitude is certainly not confined to LBA. I've seen it elsewhere where airports have tried to expand.

Well said LY. They are a one trick pony and choose to ignore the huge benefits (including environmental) the approval of the terminal and subsequent parkway station will undoubtedly begin. They are blinkered and self centered individuals. There is currently huge suppressed demand for air travel (as seen through bookings) and this demand will continue to grow. Commercial aircraft are becoming increasingly quiet and more fuel efficient/ less environmentally problematic. These ignoramuses chose to ignore these facts.

I’ve stopped reading such garbage from politicians who’s motive is to promote self importance. If they served their constituents as well as they issue the drivel they write we’d be ok.

These are dinosaurs who don’t see that we need air travel and in time carbon friendly alternatives will be found.

I have children and the last thing I want to see is high pollution but considering the government have granted a coal mine in Cumbria, we all buy online which means millions of courier and supermarket vans on the road all day and we’re advised to travel to alternative airports miles and miles away it’s just hypocrisy.

I am sure LBA does have good future so glass half full not half empty is my motto!!

Just reading about AMP capital who are selling stakes in one of Europe's largest train leasing companies, Alpha Trains.

Can anyone remember, are AMP funding the terminal development via a loan or out of their own cash funds?
