Which they do. It's an ongoing issue in Menston. They never stop moaning, claiming flights are off track, but the data shows the percentage on track is consistently in the high 90s% and when they are not it's usually weather related.

The trouble is @White Heather they won't and don't want to understand that it is off path due weather. I know one of the bigger problems when I visited the tower in my Uni days - something to do with the hand off to Scottish who then turned them earlier. Of course why is a radar controller sat in a ATC centre in Scotland going to do about a commuter village on one of the flight paths out of LBA 32 and that it is full of NIMBY's who don't have much better to do then complain.

Wasn't the airport looking at the turning right instead of left particularly for the aircraft going towards Cyprus, Greece & Turkey? I know they did a few trials, but it was with Monarch aircraft, so must have been at least coming up to 4 years ago since they did that? That would be particularly advantageous as they could have a set path of 32, if your Canary Islands or Portugal your left, Cyprus, Turkey or Greece your right turn, and then alternate for everything else?

Also I see that on twitter they are all over. Carbon emissions, expansion (fake news), more flights at night (fake news and 0600-0700 is daytime but I guess they wouldn't know that as they are sound asleep after rolling into bed at 0400), moan moan moan. The hypocrisy of the councillor of Headingley & Hyde Park complaining yet has the biggest polluting road of Leeds bang right in the middle of his ward. And he has done nothing about it.

@Sherburnflyer92 I think the new flightpaths were knocked back apparently due to insufficient planning on the airports behalf. I'm sure the airport will readdress this over the next couple of years to further improve the noise impact.

Needs to get NATS, Local ATC and airlines (I'm sure our resident leisure airline will happily assist) on board to assist with this.

That would be one way of mitigating noise. Especially for arrivals at night.

you bet me too it Aviador, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get ITV back on the scene filming (from how we recover from the virus) to the new terminal and completion (obviously would need 2/3 series of it) i would love to know what the airport management are thinking/saying and i would love to hear something from the new CEO & also i think we forgot but big shout out to Rhys Hewells! excellent work from him and hopefully his lasting legacy.

Well done to the airport for getting the planning for the terminal.Now with the biggest issue sorted it sounds like just a few tweeks here and there but the hardest issue sorted. Well done to airport and also to all which spoke up for the planning. All onwards and upwards now.

I know what you mean but I think most of those who voted in favour understood all the issues, best articulated by Cllrs Gruen and Cohen.

Ive got to say the chaps from the chambers of commerce and northern powerhouse gave excellent answers.

Although they played their part the people from the airport were lack lustre and the the one who announced he was logging out before the end of the meeting didnt look good.

After watching the "process" yesterday, I needed a break even though my blood pressure didn't rise too much. My comments are:
1. I think WH was correct by saying that the delays by the Planners was to ensure their report was robust and stood up to scrutiny.
2. I am prepared to say that a "zoom" meeting was not the best platform for the councillors to shine.
3. I know I am biased, but the supporters of the application came across more professional, confident of their report and answered questions better.
4. My understanding of the changes in day/night flights was approved but under condition that it would not come into force until the new terminal was operational.

Finally, I would like to thank LCC for the way they have kept me informed and let me observe the meeting. At last I have found a good reason for Zoom!

The issue with menston is that its mainly on the departure route, as we know when aircraft depart they gain height much sooner so even though it might look like its over the top of menston its probably slightly to the side, plus on takeoff they will produce more noise to gain the height. Im always in menston and its not a problem at all, these people just like to moan, its built into them i no their breed!
Interesting observation from yest council meeting, the ones who rejected were the younger councillors, looks like they have fallen into the greta thunberg trap as i call it!
Really great news though, have a big smile on my face today, our news yesterday is up there with the 1984 runway extension and jet2 starting ops. There is going to be alot of change now at the airport, all positive too, im sure one of the conditions is that the old terminal is demolished as they agreed for environmental issues it has to go, creates more apron space in ny view

The airport has already said they plan to demolish the terminal. They may need to agree a timescale with the council so they know it's not just going to be left there forever. As @White Heather has already said, this isn't something that can happen straight away as it's where the control tower currently is. It maybe possible to demolish around the tower but I imagine this wont be practical to do. It would however be a lasting iconic relic of LBAs historic roots.

Others have alluded to this but it's worth repeating that a huge vote of thanks is due to White Heather, Aviador and lbaspotter for the work they put into organising the support group, and to anyone else of whom I might be unaware who assisted. I'm delighted that their enthusiasm, dedication, determination and hard work have reaped the due reward.

Some words of praise and admiration for LBAYORKIE too. I thought he set exactly the right tone in his address, coming across as a sensible, even-handed member of the public who could understand the opponents' point of view but on balance, for the reasons he outlined, felt the application should be approved. It was a particularly compelling appearance in the knowledge that he came late to the task and originally prepared a two-minute presentation as this was the original time slot that was then increased to a maximum of eight minutes a day or so before the panel met.

Any legal challenges will be decided by senior qualified lawyers in the form of judges, so arguments of the heart rather than the head will be given short shrift if they don't show that the planning panel's procedures were unlawful in some way. The secretary of state could intervene and overturn the decision but I'm not aware of any recent examples of that with airport planning applications.

There is no third party right of appeal against planning decisions so GALBA etc could not appeal the actual decision of the planning panel, only the way at which it was arrived.

Although yesterday's decision in no way sets a legal precedent other airports that are at various stages along the planning route will doubtless be taking note with interest.

What is key with this development @TheLocalYokel is had GALBA been more organised during the previous planning application they could have stopped LBA dead in it's tracks. The previous plans were to build a new arrivals hall but they also laid out an agreement with the council to allow 7.1mppa. Unfortunately for them, they organised far too late in the day after those plans had already been passed. This planning application really was just for a replacement terminal, albeit part of it wasn't yet built. It was however fully passed by Leeds planning and had commenced but stopped when it was decided it wasn't going to be sufficient for the airports needs. I think this will possibly be the problem for other airports where it is new expansion. That's what defines this planning approval from those.
