Following on from the approval of the runway extension at Southampton, it appears their version of GALBA have been copying their Leeds counterparts - or perhaps it's a phrase provided in the NiMBY phrasebook to spout to the press when you have just lost an argument through a thing known as democracy.

A statement from campaign group Airport Expansion Opposition said: "Today's decision is by no means the end of the matter. It is completely wrong, not only in principle but also in the way it was reached.

"We shall be taking advice as to our options for future action.

Look familiar?

Great news for Southampton airport, although the way there talking about it online you would think the diggers were arriving next week! Will the approved plans go thru the same process as ours with RJ having his say? Anymore news regarding LBAs approved plans/timescales etc?

Well that's up to Robert Jenrick. He can call it in, and no doubt GALBAs Southern cousins will be asking him to do so, but he has two to consider now and will he really want to block two and commit to two public inquiries, each of which will cost several £m.

I can't see how he could justify forcing LBA into an inquiry yet allow SOU to just proceed, otherwise the North/South divide argument will go into overdrive.

With a new eco terminal, hopefully less car journeys to MAN and cleaner aircraft he surely must let LBAs plans go ahead! rejecting the plans is more harmful to the environment!

Just seen the news that the Bank of England is setting up a new Northern Headquarters right here in Leeds.

First it was Channel 4, then the government announced the New National infrastructure Bank and now Bank of England

Surely now is the right time to reinstate the direct airlink between London and Leeds ? Come on British Airways, we know you want too.

There used to be a Bank of England building on the corner of the Headrow and Park Row if my memory is right. Don’t know what it was for but it had a gated vehicle entrance so perhaps it stored bank notes and gold (in the days when we had gold!). Good news for Leeds though and hopefully for a thriving airport in a thriving city.

I completely agree but government departments or these sorts of organisations would not support air travel given their green travel policies for the UK between Leeds and London. We have more chance with BA in terms of onward connectivity.

Leeds has always had a bank of england, its on the corner of park place and king street (was last time i was there)
Some really big developments going off in leeds cc atm, in fact the list is endless! In the next 5years the city centre will literally double in size as it will extend right out into hunslet and holbeck, also in some of the developments are some pretty tall skyscrapers well over 30floors due to go up, exciting times, just makes you wonder what the hells going off at LBA when we have such a wealthy developing city!

Still there. Certainly know it's there when the boys in blue turn up now and again.

The issue I have with that is that they don't use the area. The dock area that they invested and developed to be another bustling night life part of the city is almost dead. So they can put the fancy sky scrapers, one way systems, cycle lanes galore, in place. It appears the real city centre and bustling night life will remain in certain areas of Leeds. Around Park Row, Albion Street/Briggate and around Vicar Lane or Call Lane & Gay Scene.

Bankers will be on LNER working on their laptops in 1st Class.

Just add and to make things clear, this is a new hub in Leeds that's been set up by Bank of England, with staff moving up North out of London.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
