Does this mean LBA can finally get on with building?
Probably, assuming there are no more design tweaks up their sleeves, but when the design is finalised and approved, it will need detailed costing, then board approval, then tendering, contractor interviews, then numerous meetings to discuss works scheduling - critical to keep the airport running smoothly especially for works within, or impacting the existing building, and the ordering of steelwork, glass, HVAC equipment etc.

Hence, work starting on site will probably be the back end of next year!

Another poor article. The approval to the terminal extension given in 2019 was not despite a backlash. It was approved with barely a whimper from any opponents. Not sure GALBA even existed back then. The MP for the NW Leeds, Alex Sobel, actively supported it, yet by the time we had the option of the new terminal instead he had been knobbled by the Green Lunatics and objected and he got all his chums in Leeds to do the same.

Our argument all along for the replacement terminal building was very much focused on the fact that if the new terminal plans didn't go ahead, old inferior plans would be resurrected to ensure the same level of growth. This really is a classic case of we told you so.

It is a lose lose situation for GALBA and the anti airport lobby. Sadly passengers and the region have also lost out when they could have had a superb replacement carbon neutral terminal building.

I don't think I've seen a press release from the airport stating outright that they are aiming to achieve 7m pax with the terminal extension yet. Don't think that's been stated to the joint committee yet- has it?

It has.
The aim remains 7m pax per year once the terminal works are completed. And Vincent Hodder reiterated that publicly around the time the new build was canned.

GALBA, Sobel and the rest have a lot to answer for regarding their ill thought out opposition to the new terminal. They owe the West Yorkshire public an apology for their selfish actions, depriving us of a state of the art facility in West Yorkshire which is not exactly blessed with the best transport facilities, quite the reverse in fact compared with other urban areas.

I am so incensed with the actions of Alex Sobel being the local MP that I wonder if it would be a good idea for an official letter to him stating the concerns from most people on this forum would be worthwhile. Have you ever thought about everyone coming together and writing as one?

We did through the planning process for the new terminal, but it didn't do us a whole lot of good though.

What is important at this stage though is this time Alex Sobel and his GALBA friends cannot stop the work to refurbish and extend the terminal as it has already been through the planning process. I just hope the work to transform the current terminal is enough to make it fit for purpose and to enable more airlines to use the facility.

Its quite amusing actually how in years to come we should hopefully see upwards of 7million pax and thanks to sobel and co who knew this would happen all these pax will now be flying through a more polluting terminal due to their actions!
We on here care for the environment and appreciate environmentally friendly new builds and new technologies, clearly sobel, galba and the like dont seem to care about the environment, they only think about themselves and self interests, thats the way i look at this!!

As I keep saying, GALBA are just a bunch of hypocritical NlMBYs and their supporting MPs are a bunch of self righteous idiots who are interested only in securing the votes they need at the next election.

The sad thing for me is that they will probably still get them. Far too many will ignore what they did and vote them in again just because they are Labour. They will ignore the fact that the airport will still grow but without the carbon neutrality, without the BREEAM excellence, without the building designed to assist those with disabilities and without the large tree planting programme for carbon offsetting. Those who voted him back in will probably then fly from LBA and moan afterwards about their experience which makes them just as much a hypocrite as Sobel.

These MPs are not the Labour I knew that was the workers party. The old Labour would seek to create jobs for their constituents, not do all they could to not only stop new jobs, but to put an end to people's careers and tell them to find more sustainable work, whilst at the same time proclaiming MAN as the gateway airport for the North.

I still look forward to the day Alex Sobel is stupid enough to come canvassing on my doorstep!

My local Labour councillor who actively campaigned alongside the likes of Alex Sobel came knocking on my door at the local elections. I was about to go out at the time she called so I couldn't tell her my views but I took the great pleasure of closing the door on her instead.

This is what really makes me angry. Whilst DSA get massive support from the local population, MP's. the council. Govt, even the media, LBA gets nothing but abuse from our local MP's, media, and many councillors and the GALBA nutters. OK I will give it that LCC did approve the new terminal, but then the NIMBYS and Galba got to town to stop it. Where's all the protesters at DSA trying to make sure it closes down as its bad for the environment....not one!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
