And what if you arrive on foot, do you still have to pay the car parking charges ?

I would catch the X1 to the old terminal and walk in, ha

Hi everyone. I am hoping to make a brief stop off at BHX on my way down to South Wales in a couple of weekends time and obviously hoping to avoid costs being a short visit. So is Sheldon Country Park my best bet and is there still free parking on the road outside? Any advice greatly appreciated

If you want to watch from the northern end of the runway, its fairly easy to park on Parkdale Road (near the junction with Mapledene Road) and walk down - its 5-10 minutes walk from there to the end of the runway. Similar parking on the opposite side of the park, on Tallington Road. The former is easier to get to from the A45, though. Alternatively, i believe its still free to park at Marston Green train station car park (or along the road leading to it). The official Sheldon Country Park car park either has, or will soon have, paid parking.

At the southern end, your best best - imo - is to park in Bickenhill and walk over the new bridge and along the route to the GAA field. At the top of the hill is a nice view of the runway and the approach, so much so its Kev of Airport Action's usual spot.

I dont think there are any other 'free' options.

Take a look at Hazeldene Rd on Google Maps, just on the bend there is a spur that leads to a loop (like a roundabout but only one entrance/exit).

Along the fence on the far side of the loop there is a gate leading to a path through the trees bringing you out pretty much at the end of the runway. A couple of mins walk depending on how far along Hazeldene you can park.

Hope the weather improves for you (y)

What's the parking like now in Bickenhill?

I haven't been that way for a long time, definitely since the roadworks started.

Last time i went, simple. Its not parking specifically, more that you can pull over at the side of the road. Sure some of the locals wouldnt be too impressed, but if the numbers are low and you park considerately, its unlikely to be an issue.

I think the multi story at Elmdon cargo for upto an hour … I’m not sure how much but remember thinking it was cheap & judging by all the taxis that wait there it must be cheap !

So I got my 90 minute visit to BHX today via s sunny Sheldon Country Park. Quick bit of help with 3 aircraft on the ground please. Over to the right of the runway was a 737 freighter which I presume was G-JMCL of West Atlantic? Further right I could see 2 biz jets, 1 of which looked Gulfstream ish. Anyone able to confirm reg of all 3 aircraft please?

Ian's BHXmovementsblog -

might be of help, although I'm sure that there are others here that will know the identities.
Hope you enjoyed your visit.

Is the long stay car park (Car Park 7 I think) allowed for spotting? I'm guessing not but I wondered if anyone had tried that.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
