There's going to be a point where we have 2 baggage reclaim halls and 1 security hall. When arrivals are moved to the new baggage reclaim, they won't be able to exit via the new arrivals hall as that's where security is currently, but the current baggage reclaim needs to be removed before security can be moved. Is there another exit they can use temporarily, or can they be diverted around current security?

I have thought the same. It's a very good point. I have been involved with a major move many years back. The scanners tend to come on wheels and can be pushed through the terminal overnight to their new home. As you say it's unlikely to be quite as easy as that this time round and a temporary exit will likely need to be constructed to allow passengers to egress from the new arrivals hall.

We used LBA on Wednesday afternoon. Albeit in a quieter period I was pleased to see all 4 new scanners being used meaning we flew through security in 5 mins! The security officer mentioned to me they are having a few teething problems but overall the process is light years ahead of where we were before installation.

One general observation, it looked like the people monitoring were sat next to the machines, I thought the plan was for them to be in a separate quiet room away from distractions?

Fingers crossed for the ever looming peak period!

It was. Perhaps the quiet room isn't fully equipped and operational yet?

One other observation potential tweak I think should be implemented has to be when your tray comes through the machine the security officer should instruct the passenger to take it away from the machine to sort out their belongings, I couldn’t help but be frustrated this minor detail hasnt been brought in/controlled.

Although a very smooth process overall there was a couple in front of me who held up other passengers from accessing their trays coming through, I stepped in politely asking them to take their tray to the large tables so that other passengers building up behind could get to their own trays.

Hopefully that makes sense…

Recently travelled to Menorca from LBA on Jet2 flight LS419 departing 08:50.
Used the Sentinel Park and Ride, which was cheaper than the return taxi fare to and from my home in Kirkstall.
Quickly dealt with at Sentinel and within 10 minutes was standing at the Jet2 check in desk. 5 minutes there, short queue at Security and no more than 10 minutes later I was in the duty free shop. The new machines in the Security area really speed up the process. Will be even better when all 4 operate in tandem.
Plenty of seating in the bars and waiting areas on this occasion, although I have struggled to find a seat in the past.
Plane departed on time and I have to say this was a pleasant experience with efficient and helpful staff.
The return to LBA went equally well. Quickly through passport control and not long to wait for the luggage. Baggage reclaim was a bit of a crush, but that is a known fault and being dealt with.
Overall I have to say this was a pleasant experience. Well done all involved at LBA!

I think the reason for your good outbound experience was the timing of your flight- post early morning peak. Still overall very positive, thanks

Thank you Dave, although I think you'll find that your holiday was in Menorca, not Majorca! You clearly had a good time if you can't recall where you were! 😁

A friend of mine is flying to FAO tonight with a few guys at 19:10 with Ryanair. He's a bit miffed as he said the lounges close at 17:00….just looked and there are 9 flights after 6 pm, seems strange they can't leave one of them open.
Apparently opening hours are 04:00 to 17:00 he was told.

According to the airport website they close at 17:00 in winter and 20:00 in summer. Its quite clear so not sure why he thinks they close earlier

Hi all from Lanzarote. Flew out with Ryanair in the new Max last Thursday with no complaints at all with them. New security system was pants though. We fast tracked and breezed past the queues to join the hunt for a tray on the new belt fed system. First problem was the trays shot straight past so fast track had to try reach for them underneath with an inevitable tug of war with those that had stood in line. Next step was a security guard shouting at every passenger to do ‘Ronaldo’ at the body scanner(very popular in Leeds that mate).
Finally the bags appear on the conveyor and are sorted for inspection. Mine was selected as I had a bottle in it(wrong it’s a monocular). The security man then took great delight in pulling out my medication which wasnt boxed to save room(I’m hand luggage only guy) and proceeded to question me about them asking to see prescriptions and guessing what the meds were for! Never had this before. He then swabbed my iPad and monocular and sent me on my way as by this time the queue to get through had ground to a halt. It took 30 minutes using fast track to get through. I dread to think what it’s like early morning. Gripe over and back to the sunshine👍🏼

Just currently in the departure lounge as i write this, a new record for me as i was through security in 1 minute, no joke! No queue, bag and fone straight on tray, body scanned and done! My flights the 17.05 ryanair to ALC so im like the last of the afternoon rush so guess thats why im through security so fast, departure lounge rammed as expected.
On arrival managed to speak to a friendly guy on the terminal construction site, a tipper truck had just arrived so he kept the security gate open for me so i could take a few clear shots.
In the second picture you can see the steel been delivered on the hgv low loader and its also laid on the ground. Its a large development for sure, the construction guy told me the size of the extension will be all the way to the jcb and steel truck you can see in the pic!View attachment 30803View attachment 30804

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
