Two EasyJet Bristol diversions this afternoon A320 G-EZWD from Krakow and A319 OE-LQQ from Malaga.

There is a large fire in the vicinity of Fort Dunlop, been burning for nearly 2 hours now. It looks like departures are using R15 and arrivals have moved around to R33. Wind currently 5kts almost directly up the runway, so tailwind landings.

That said, theres an Easyjet and KLM arrival thats gone into a hold over Bromsgrove, so maybe no arrivals at all at the mo...

EDIT: Ryanair giving it a go...

16:45 Update: Ryanair landed on R15. But now Easyjet, KLM, Tui and Turkish (in that order) positioning to land on R33. Fun.

Edit again: Tui and Turkish remain in the hold. Some fun and games waiting for a tailwind component to drop low enough to allow them to land in line with organisational SOPs, perhaps...! Fire looking less murky now (i'll put a picture on shortly)!

Edit again (at 1700 local): Tui now heading north to try R15 approach, Turkish and now Lufthansa remain in the hold. ATC having a workout today...

Fire picture below - this is the least intense its been for the last 2 hours!

They had only just switched to 15 at 3pm when the fire became evident. A few landed in the following minutes, including the Silkway B744F.
After that the considerable drifting smoke obviously posed a hazard to 15 arrivals.

Well, that same aircraft (EI-IJR) was back in the air an hour later, so doesnt appear to have been any issues.

Still, a fun evening for the airport.

pretty poor performance by TUI on Friday, especially as its the start to the schools summer half term.

Thursdays TOM312/3 flight to Boa Vista was delayed by 24hrs to Friday, and then totally cancelled Friday morning, no idea how the passengers stranded in Boa Vista are getting home.

as for the Friday flights, well delays and cancellations were common place.

Fly4 Airlines EI-FFD presumably went tech? The flights to Hurghada, Dalaman are cancelled (no idea how the returning passengers are getting back!), and the Funchal, Antalya, Larnaca flights are either delayed till Saturday, or possibly cancelled as well.

You have to feel sorry for the poor families looking forward to their hard earned holidays, only for TUI to cancel them at the last minute. Its shocking, I appreciate the IT issues arn't helping, but most of the other airlines have managed ok. It would never have happened in the Thompson/Britannia days

Worldwide issue, Matt. These things will keep happening. Judging by activity above me in very sunny Essex today compared with yesterday, it feels like normality has returned.

BHX seem to get off lightly yesterday.

I think Britain got off lightly when you look at Amsterdam, America and India just to pick at some of the new headlines

Global windows based IT issue that locked out computers and affected thousands passengers worldwide caused the mayhem not TUI, maybe you can put the rest of BHX departures up to show all the other poor airline performances with delays and cancellations as well as worldwide data for the IT problem.

Maybe you can also show the late inbounds outside the airlines control and find out why Swissport couldn't cope with many airlines/aircraft arriving in a very short space of time with TUI pax unable to disembark for a long time because no one was available to escort them to the terminal or allow boarding.

Yes everybody feels for the passengers but the events were outside all of the airlines and ground handling agents control with windows computer systems needing manual intervention by company IT to remove the Crowdstrike code that screwed up the windows systems. Not all computers were affected only the ones that did a windows update earlier in the morning so some companies were affected more than others.

yes aware of the IT issues, but out of all the UK airlines, TUI fared the worst, no cancelations by Jet2, Ryanair, and Easyjet only cancelled the one flight, due to issues in Berlin.

Out of 157 departures, TUI cancelled 6 (including the Thursday Boa Vista), Easyjet 1, Swiss 1, KLM 2, Eurowings 2

- TUI were planing to leave Swissport was it last year, but for what ever reason never happened, we really need more handling agents at BHX, apart from Jet2 doing their own handling, what other choice do airlines have?

*Reposting this here as I think its the better fitting thread*

Anyone know the nature of the return of AFR1315 F-HBLH? Took off then immediately returned, made an approach, went around and is now on its second attempt to return? I am assuming an emergency of some description but can't be engine related as I'd imagine they wouldn't elect to go-around otherwise. Potentially a hydraulic issue and a missed approach to check the state of the landing gear? not a clue but I'm sure someone knows!

As the Air France worked the circuit to return, EI-FFC and G-SUNE also went around, but on second approach landed succesfully

**Update: F-HBLH has got down safely, EZY26LU G-EZTJ was holding and was the first aircraft to attempt an approach once the AF had landed, it went around quite a distance before the runway threshold and now appears to be diverting to EMA

***Further update: The next two aircraft following the EZY have got down safely, really odd sequence of events

Early reports on other social media sites indicate that F-HBLH may have struck a bird on departure

Any reason why Jet2 afternoon departures seem to be averaging 1hr+ delays? Noticing it with some TUI flights too - it seemed to be the case before the IT issues too. Some even up to 4/5hrs today. Is it the usual summer slot delays? Or is it BHX specific? Worried about a flight we have later this summer!

For example today scheduled vs. Actual
LCA 15:30 / 19:01
PFO 15:30 / 19:42
EFL 15:35 / 16:58
CFU 16:05 / 18:40
FUE 16:25 / 17:43
DLM 16:40 / 18:19
And so on…

It'll be ATC slots and now we are coming up to full swing of the summer season they’ll get even longer. Not just for BHX but all airports

Ian's site confirms the Air France had a bird strike on departure.
No idea why the EasyJet diverted to EMA maybe close to minimum fuel, it returned to BHX later.

Looking at BHX departures delays are accross the board not just Jet2.

TUI have had a right kicking from the media in recent days.
Several major delays, with passengers stranded all across their network.
Up to 72 hours was quoted for Madeira. Surely not all IT connected?.

I know a Fly4 aircraft went tech in Antalya yesterday so maybe that could be a reason , they could of moves things around etc.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
