Is the bus shelter being replaced? As I thought it would remain with the portakabin? Or are they all being redone?
No it isn't being replaced. The bit beyond the new extension was supposed to be remaining for now, but the rest is no longer required.
As per my recent post, In the long term, the intention is to build a proper two storey pier with holding lounges down the remainder of the apron, but that's some way off, and subject to planning approval.

What could possibly go wrong?

A photo confirming what was recently said about the boarding tunnels. Only the part in front of gates 7&8 remain and the rest removed. It looks like gates 9&10 are not being used for now as the area is all dug up.

The airport featured on the lunchtime look north and showed the view out to the apron and baggage equipment. It was reasonably positive for Spencer Stokes, although he did put in a dig about the building being a grey box. Was good to get a view of inside and VH as ever came across very well.

I'm just watching it now. Perhaps if #BBCLookNorth and #SpencerStokes had been more positive about the new terminal plans we would now be looking at a gleaming new terminal and not the box he talks about. All in all a positive report for the airport.

My thoughts exactly. Be careful what you wish for Mr Stokes.

I doubt he would have fancied a prison being built on the LBA site then had it ever closed down as suggested by his mates.

Nice little walkthrough and artists impressions of the new development.
Quelle surprise the finished article looks considerably better than the in progress construction that has been complained about by some. I think it looks great

I know i keep mentioning it but regarding the exterior of the new extention , if that section 3/4th the way up in the image ends up dark tinted glass full length then it will break up the currently all grey side of the build and totally transform it into a decent looking build, its a fairly minor detail that would really transform what at the mo looks a big grey box.
By looking at the above image it just looks to be a slightly off grey which is a bit odd to me, but yet at the end where the small pier is you can see dark glass?

I'm really impressed with that. It looks so much better than the first visualisations and I didn't think they were too bad. Is there a departure video yet?

I was wondering the same, I suppose departure will be more on the phase 2 side of the project. However it still would still be nice to see.

Couple of thoughts on the video, I understand it's only an artist's impression but:
1 - I hope the wildflowers stay, and that LBA employs the necessary staff to maintain them. Not too much to ask for a bit of beauty.
2 - The border and baggage reclaim finally look like those of a major international airport.
3 - I am seeing a couple of tight choke points in reclaim that could get messy in peak summer. Looks to be similar to current reclaim. Hopefully it's a bit bigger than it looks.
4 - Really hope they stick with the tiled flooring and not lino! And for the love of God don't put floor stickers on it!
5 - Zero chance there'll be physical barriers guiding pax to the aircraft (probably just artistic liberty)

When I watched the video I thought exactly the same about your first point. It needs less of the low grade space filler type shrubs and more wild flowers like you say. The heathers and bee loving flowers look an excellent addition to the renders as does the dry stone walling. These features will finish off the project nicely.

I couldn't agree more on your second and fourth point. The latest artist impressions really do show the new facility in its best light. Lets hope the finish is as good as the artist impressions.

With regards to your third point, nothing screams bottleneck so perhaps I haven't spotted what you saw. One additional benefit of luggage arriving onto the carousels from the under croft rather than from the back of the hall is it allows passengers to walk all the way around the carousel. This also means no need for all the passengers to pass down just one side of the hall as they egress.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
