Has anyone else noticed with the start of the winter schedule TUI Airways UK 2 letter IATA code has changed from BY (Britannia) to X3 (TUIfly Gmbh)

I think its just FR24 getting a bit confused, i believe that TUI UK is still using BY & TOM as its flight codes.

Yes, noticed today when looking at the flights on FR24.

We have an extra TUI Airways Boeing 737 booked into Leeds next Friday Nov 7th at 19:45 from Tenerife South as "TOM5545" I understand its returning Marella Cruise passengers whom departed out to Dubrovnik on Thursdays flight to join up with the ship "Marella Explorer 2"

Only loosely related to LBA, but TUi have announced significant cuts in their costs, 30% in 2026, 30% in 2027 and 40% in 2028.

They clearly mean business, as demonstrated by their increasing use of other carriers, and the fact a 12 year old 787 Dreamliner, G-TUID, has today made its final landing at Kemble, where it will be parted out.

The aircraft is returning off lease so the decision to scrap it for spares will not have been made by TUI. Apparently the second hand market for the 787-8 is virtually non-existent and if the aircraft is coming up for an expensive C/D check it’s probably worth more if its parted out.

Even so, TUi are getting rid rather than renewing the lease. It was actually flown to Kemble under a TUi flight number so clearly the leasing company didnt want it back. They expect 26 new aircraft from Boeing in 2026. It'll be interesting to see if any are 787s or whether they're all 737 MAXs.

The Max can do some pretty long runs, not sure it can go as far as Mexico or Jamaica though. Sounds like they are in the process of having an operational review. As much as Tui aren't the greatest of brands here in Yorkshire, it would be sad to see the brand dissappear from the skies.

TUI Boeing 787 Dreamliner G-TUID is being directly replaced by G-TUIP which is been transferred from TUI Belgium.

Its still a reduction in the TUi fleet of 787s and still a relatively young aircraft being disposed of. My post was about TUi as a whole, not TUi UK specifically. The savings quoted are across Europe. Apologies for not making it clear.

TUI have no plans to buy or lease any more 787s at present

I wish someone would put 787-8s into LBA! Perfect aircraft with a huge asian population in west yorks! It really is a huge market LBA could tap into.

A final word on this, from me, is that TUi airlines have confirmed the withdrawal of aircraft from their 'home base' at LTN with their only remaining LTN based aircraft transferring to LGW. They will continue to offer holidays from LTN, but all flying on Easyjet and Ryanair.

Another indication of the direction of travel for TUi . Its hard to see any expansion at LBA other than using Easyjet and Ryanair too.

It would appear they are cutting the long haul from other operations and redeploying the fleet elsewhere.
Sadly it is no growth and a simple replacement. It isn't up to TUI re: that 787 but rather the lease company. I would suspect given it's a relatively early model B787 and therefore cheaper to scrap and get money for the parts.

All aircraft are maintained to the same standard but if you look at it - TUI's 787's seem rather battered as opposed to British Airways, American Airlines (UA, AA), etc.

I'd expect that they get worked more especially as they do short haul flights on them as well.
