A final word on this, from me, is that TUi airlines have confirmed the withdrawal of aircraft from their 'home base' at LTN with their only remaining LTN based aircraft transferring to LGW. They will continue to offer holidays from LTN, but all flying on Easyjet and Ryanair.

Another indication of the direction of travel for TUi . Its hard to see any expansion at LBA other than using Easyjet and Ryanair too.
A nail in the coffin for the DSA brigade, one of their main operators. They’ll be as sick as Cleethorpes Donkeys tonight.

Well it doesnt bode that well given how things are going. TUi are clearly cutting costs so does it make sense to invest in a new base at an airport that has failed before? Its certainly a risk. Mind you, if FlyDoncaster are offering them a huge subsidy to go there, reducing their risk, then you never know.

Tui Airways will be operating 5x weekly flights this summer 2026

So, still nothing to do with the runway. Within limits, no aquaplaning or skidding
( various news outlets take note) and effectively, pilot error due to a failure to use sufficient rudder to control the yaw. That said, the juddering must have impacted decision making and in a landing situation they dont have time to try something different.

The day this incident occured i immediately drove upto the cemetery road view point to see what was happening, the wind which was blowing from the north east which is unusual in itself was so strong i could hardly stand up, plus the rain was proper hammering it down. How they even managed to land that afternoon is beyond me, the weather conditions must of been on the limits.

Perhaps close, but according to the report not the cause and within limits. Braking action was not an issue. Entirely down to the failure of the nose wheel bearing which caused vibration to such a degree that the pilot was caught out and failed to use sufficient rudder to keep the aircraft straight, believing use of the rudder was the cause of the vibration. In fact the rudder was returned to 0 degrees and used only intermittently to 2 degrees, when 3 degrees were required the whole time increasing to 4 degrees as the aircraft slowed.

There’s a big difference between running all these simulations after the event in the cold light of day with the benefit of hindsight and the reality of the pressure of landing the aircraft full of passengers after the wheel bearing failed.
Very true. As I said earlier, the crew only have one chance. No time to have second thoughts. No thinking time. I suppose that a failed nose wheel bearing, and how that sounds at high speed, isn't something covered by simulator training. If not, perhaps it will be now.

Just goes to show, know matter how much training, there will always be incidents with new causes that won’t or can’t have been anticipated.
The pilots have split seconds to make decisions and even though the risk may not have been there (with hindsight) they brought the plane to a safe, albeit messy, stop

Disappointing, but likely due to them having Ryanair flights available. You can fly on any day in the search engine, so whilst not ideal them dropping their own flight, the Ryanair option does at least give greater flexibility.
The Ryanair flights aren't something new. Tui haven't just started using them, they say they are focusing more on using them.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
