My understanding was that the A340-600 fully laden would need 8500-9000 feet of runway. Cardiff and Teesside are much shorter.
Yes the requirements for a longer runway are only needed for departures. It has already been mentioned the focus is on inbound freight and less on outbound freight.

The ACL Summer 26 start of summer season report is out and indicates a 6% uplift in seats available to 4.028 million. Ryanair have a 10%uplift as well a slight increase for Jet2. All in the right direction and once the 2nd phase of the terminal is complete, perhaps we will see more from based operators and more from EasyJet?

Am I right in thinking just because it’s slotted doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going ahead? If I stand corrected, Ryanair had a lot of extra slots on for LBA with new destinations that are not on sale

I hate to have to say this, but due to current world events, we may start to see a reduction rather than an increase because air fares are expected to.rise, which on top of other rising costs will stifle some demand from households and businesses alike. The good news in any short-term tempering of demand means less terminal pressure whilst the delayed regen is fully completed.

And on the back of the above a protracted ME war may not be good for the less financially secure airlines. I can think of one that ops from LBA (only a few times a week now) that may be worried. I am not going to name names as that is unfair but suspect you will all know who I am referring to. No one should be underestimating the impact on LBA and other airports and airlines worldwide. There are of course wider impacts still but those are not for this thread.

Its all a bit of a surprise to me. The CEO said the 581 was a world class experience and I got the impression the format was working well.

Didn't they want one lounge to be free of children initially?
Well it wasnt more than 6 months ago he was extolling its virtues. I think it was mentioned in one of the ACC reports.

I think they are just going more 'bucket and spade' which lets face it is the majority of their customer demographic.

I know that the amount that Priority Pass and other such organisations pay to the airport is very low and doesnt allow them to provide a premium product, which is why they had the cheap lounge.

To be honest I pretty much gave up using lounges a while ago even though I’ve a free Dragon pass. Most of the offerings are poor and that’s when you can actually manage to gain access without a wait or paying to pre book. Guess they maybe attractive if you want to drink copious amounts of alcohol before boarding!
That FB post just now looks to be full of people moaning about LBA on the usual topics, car parking, cost of flights, weather issues, access issues, the air conditioning etc etc….your really couldn’t make it up!
Having just flown to and from New Orleans from MAN via LHR I can tell you from my experience this month LBA is far better in most aspects….The lounge BA use for business class now at MAN is no better then LBA, it’s also packed wasn’t available to pass holders as it was full, oh and there were children in there - the same applied to the BA business lounges at LHR 🤣😄. Finding the departure gates at MAN is now a task in itself! When we arrived at LHR from both MAN and New Orleans the airbridges were broken, we waited 40 mins for a coach both times so we could leave the aircraft and then miraculously the airbridges started working!! Not good when on a tight connection!
The less said about New Orleans airport the better- it’s obviously not geared towards long haul ops!
Flying back into MAN from LHR now involves 30 min journey as BA refuse to use the biometric ID at the airport to mange passenger flow through the terminal introduced after the terminal revamp. Instead you have to leave the aircraft via the airbridge, then go down a set of stairs and back out onto the apron to board a bus which then takes you right round to the other side of the terminal to get back to luggage collection!
Perhaps I should go on to MAN FB site 🤣🤣

Just seen this posted on LBA’s LinkedIn page

A pivotal moment for Yorkshire’s Airport! ✈️

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) has officially launched “Together for Tomorrow,” our commitment to building a more sustainable future!

This isn't just a vision for the future - it's a roadmap for a modern, responsible, and future-ready LBA. The strategy is built on four key pillars:
- Destination: Net Zero: Committing to Net Zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 through onsite renewables and removing gas from the terminal.
- Protecting Yorkshire: Maintaining 100% waste diversion from landfill and our recently announced partnership with the Aire Resilience Company.
- Connecting Communities: Ensuring at least 35% of annual spend remains within local postcodes and launching a new charitable foundation.
- Putting People First: Championing diversity and mental health, with a target of 10% of employees utilising annual volunteer time by 2030.

We’ve already made massive strides, including a 74% reduction in emissions since 2018 and achieving a 100% GRESB sustainability score in 2025.

With LBA:REGEN already underway, Together for Tomorrow formalises a holistic approach to being a responsible business, a supportive employer, and a good neighbour while leading the region’s transition to low-carbon aviation.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
