Cost v benefit. Huge cost! This may seem naive, but why couldnt the runway be extended. The extension could be taken advantage of for 14 and 32 take off's and 32 landings The only restriction would be 14 landings, for which the current threshold markings and ILS set up could be used.
Yes short term huge cost, but we all hope the airport is still here in 50 years time. Spread this cost over say a 50 year timescale and cost the could be justifiable with the increase in passenger numbers. Again though the night time restriction are a major hurdle, something Leeds City Council can't seem to understand the economic benefit to the City and Yorkshire. There is some hidden agenda we don't know from the airlines but it seems like everyone else are getting the routes yet for us nothing. Is it a runway issue for a lot of airlines or is there just not the demand from West Yorkshire. The demand is there so something is stopping these airlines from coming. The terminal was used in the past as a reason but now we have a spanking new extension and soon to be open refurbishment of the old terminal yet we are still reliant on Jet2 and Ryanair for the majority of passenger throughput.Cost v benefit. Huge cost!
Bang on. Manchester is a real problem, although you have to wonder why its less of a problem for Liverpool, which is half the distance compared to Leeds.I my view the current length is sufficient for LBA requirements at the moment – the problem regards new routes etc, sadly it is still the same problem as always and this will continue is MANCHESTER
58 comments in support and 20 t'other way!Does anyone know the scores on the doors at the moment?
That in itself is highly unusual. The council expect that normally there will be a significantly higher negative response than positive. Ideally we need the positive comments to keep coming, but even if they tail off, this early lead won't go unnoticed. Of course, the big question is whether or not the Plans Panel take a blind bit of notice of the support, or the CAA policy, or Government policy, or even Leeds City Council's own policy!!58 comments in support and 20 t'other way!
I think the clowncillors on the Committee have to take this serious and not fall into the trap led by that group we don’t name, because if the plans panel reject it, and go against all the policy’s it’s only going to end up in the appeal court and I would expect t the airport to win this and leave the council with a hefty bill to pay, which as a council tax payer I would be fumingThat in itself is highly unusual. If the decision goes LBA’s way those who we don’t speak of do not have a right to object or appeal. To pre-empt this they could though ask for the application be called in before a decision is made , in which case the Secretary of State would decide whether or not to call it in. If it is called in then we go down the path of a Public Inquiry and we all know what that can lead to.
I was with one of the people behind Leeds Bradford Airport Spotters (LBA) on Facebook this morning. He didnt think they had been contacted by you yet- maybe they have but he wasnt aware. They have 47k members so thought it was worth mentioning to you.I have today put out reminders on several aviation groups. Sadly even these are infested with people spouting utter rubbish and despite the fact they happily watch live streams of LBA they claim it should be shut down.
I would encourage everyone to continue making a real nuisance of themselves by constantly pestering friends, relatives, colleagues, neighbours and anyone else they can think of, to generate as much support as possible. Even if it ends up with more objections than support, this isn't a vote. The key thing is demonstrating to the planners that for once, there is considerable support and that G***A are not representing anyone but themselves.
And to anyone who has already added their support, thank you. If you have encouraged or forced others to do so, a double thank you!!
I checked a couple of hours ago, totals stood at 59 and 21.I don’t think the scores on the doors will change for a bit.

I am not a member of that one. Perhaps someone who is can copy and paste the information on there. Obviously, we need now to ask that they wait until next week.I was with one of the people behind Leeds Bradford Airport Spotters (LBA) on Facebook this morning.
