Re: Monarch Aircraft Engineering MAEL

Thanks Ray,

Those A320's look so small inside the new hanger!

Re: Monarch Aircraft Engineering MAEL

G-MONS was the first in today, it will go on to be scrapped from here. There was a Q400 and 2 E195's that followed. G-OJMR will go in on the 7th for an A check and cabin reconfiguration.

Re: Monarch Aircraft Engineering MAEL

Argh!!! Scrapped!!!! I'm sure I flew on G-MONS about seven years back from Manchester to Rhodes. The A300's have been a smashing aircraft.

Re: Monarch Aircraft Engineering MAEL

Quite impressive seeing all three A300's in the hangar at the same time. Saw G-MAJS depart this morning with a sharp right turn, it was heading off to Kilimanjaro.

Re: Monarch Aircraft Engineering MAEL

Given flybe now use MAEL I hope this is the right thread.

There seems to be talk that flybe will move its Exeter maintenance operation to Birmingham.

This could prove interesting for BHX not only due to the extra flybe work, but, Exeter also looks after the BA citiflyer fleet as well as other airlines (Im sure I saw a Gulf Air E jet at EXT), and also some delivery flights.

Im not sure what other contracts they have/or had, but, could add that ever more variety to BHX's tarmac, even if it isn't as exciting as the proposed B777's.

A300 G-MONS was towed out of the hangar yesterday morning and departed BHX for Tupelo, where it will be scrapped, around 16:00 last night.

It will be a shame to see these birds go. They're high up on my list of favourite aircraft.

Re: Monarch Aircraft Engineering MAEL

If you want one last opportunity to go on one there may well be a farewell flight departing from and arriving at the Birmingham hangar with a reception in there afterwards. I depends on the demand as to whether it happens or not.

Re: Monarch Aircraft Engineering MAEL

The BBC is broadcasting live from the facility this morning for it's BBC Breakfast show.

A clip from the above....

...and a clip from Midlands Today (ignore the bit about the 787) with a short interview with Mr Kehoe where he more or less confirms Biman.

Thomson 763 G-DBLA arrived from Gatwick today for end of lease checks.

Incidentally there is now an email address for anyone wishing to register interest in a farewell flight on the A300, with a VIP reception inside the hangar afterwards, if anyone wants it.

Re: Monarch Aircraft Engineering MAEL

There are x2 Fly Dubai 738 due into the MAEL hangar next month. Will be nice to see an international carrier use the new facility.

Re: Monarch Aircraft Engineering MAEL

Good stuff, they'll certainly be something different to see if they do arrive.

There could be an Austrian B777-200 due some time this month. There were 2 due into MAN MAEL but both have dropped out of the system and I have a sneaky suspicion that MAEL BHX may have gained the slots......

They would certainly be nice to see if they do come to BHX. ZZ333 is now outside the hangar doing engine runs so I imagine if all is OK it'll be departing soon.

Fly Dubai 738 A6-FEJ was due in at 06:40 this morning, the BHX movements forum showed it as delayed but no word on whether it turned up, going to try and pop down later and see if it's in.

The RAF A330 ZZ333 departed this afternoon.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
