New route to Malaga now bookable from Nov 1st. Ops A320 and a twice weekly frequency, some much needed additional bucket and spade capacity.
Times now out. Operates Tuesday and Friday, arrives BHX at 1305 and departs 1345.

It doesn't seem to be bookable at the moment but it's definitely showing as direct on the route map and drop down menu.

Great to see Vueling expand further at BHX and as Ray has mentioned, good to see our sunshine routes given extra capacity which is needed

If Alicante, Malaga and Tenerife all operate throughout the winter then that's an extra 5 weekly flights to the Spanish mainland and 7 extra flights in total. Taking that extra capacity into consideration it's perhaps now understandable that Barcelona may stay at 2x weekly, the same as last year? If it does that is.

So as things currently stand

Winter 15/16
Barcelona = 2x weekly (cant remember?)

Winter 16/17
Alicante = 3x weekly
Barcelona = 2x weekly
Malaga = 2x weekly
Tenerife = 2x weekly

Still hopefully we can get some increase capacity on BCN and TFS for winter but who knows. vueling more than anyone seem to be able to keep a good secret! They seem to be getting on with BHX

Veuling BHX-AGP flights now bookable on their website. AGP will operate on Tuesday and Saturday from 1st November arriving in Birmingham at 1700 and departing at 1740 on both days.

Looks like the timings have changed from when I last looked :rolleyes:

Good to hear that it's now bookable.

With 2x weekly through the winter there has to be a good chance that we may see 3x weekly next summer, maybe even 4x weekly across the peak weeks?

Ray, jfy Veuling seem to take a while to update their site. It's good news some would have had us believe that Veuling were only looking elsewhere but they still keep adding flights ex BHX :D

P.S. Ray Im loving the new range of emoticons ;)

At summer peak next year, I would not be shocked to see the following:

Alicante = 4x weekly
Barcelona = 7x weekly
Malaga = 4x weekly
Tenerife = 3x weekly
New Route = 2x weekly

Would be great for vueling to be flying 20+ weekly rotations out of BHX in S17 and assuming that the existing routes do well, why they wouldn't continue to expand!

I'd be happy with that (y)

I think there is a good chance that we may see Palma next summer.

It would be nice to add Valencia or a city such as Paris or Rome. On a personal note I'd be very happy to see the return of Florence.

Vueling Announces Direct Services to Malaga From Birmingham Airport

Tickets are now on sale for Vueling’s new route between Birmingham and the Andalusian city of Malaga, to be launched this winter.

Services will begin on November 1st operating every Tuesday and Saturday offering 15,120 seats from Birmingham Airport. Flights will be operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft with capacity for 180 passengers.

Vueling, a member of the International Airlines Group (IAG) started its operation from Birmingham Airport in May 2015, with direct services to Barcelona. Following the success of Barcelona, the airline announced two new routes which will start in June: Alicante, with up to two weekly flights, and Tenerife, with up to three weekly services. With these three routes, Vueling is offering more than 97,600 seats between the months of April and October.

Gabriel Schmilovich, Network Planning, Scheduling and Slots Director at Vueling, said: “We are very glad to announce another new route from Birmingham Airport. Malaga is a hugely popular destination for holidaymakers all year round and, with Vueling, Birmingham travellers will have access to a premium product at very competitive fares”.

William Pearson, Aviation Development Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “Vueling, which only started services in May 2015 to Barcelona, has now announced a fourth route with the addition of Malaga for Winter 2016. This popular Spanish destination means passengers have even more choice from their local airport. Vueling, Spain’s low cost airline, is a fantastic airline that means passengers can redeem or gain their Avios points on these sunshine destinations.”

When they first arrived we all had very high hopes for Norwegian (maybe because they were announced the day after that infamous Flybe bloodbath) but Vueling are quietly going about their business and slowly building a decent little network.

I have no idea of their future long term plans but you have to wonder if BA (IAG) may see Vueling as an answer to regaining some regional UK market share? As we know for many years BA had strong networks from Birmingham, Manchester and in Scotland, with the way the market is these days I think it would be very difficult for mainline to return but Vueling could be the answer.

They now have a strong presence in regional UK (Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh) but in particular Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh have seen significant expansion in the last 18 months or so. They are gaining market share on the holiday routes, with a couple of city destinations also added and are building up brand awareness and a customer base. They also offer British Airways code shares and all of the other associated benefits.

I may be way out here but I wonder if, say, 5 years from now we may see significant Vueling bases in Edinburgh, Manchester and Birmingham offering a network of holiday routes and city destinations? All would be low cost but would have the might of BA behind them and would carry British Airways code shares?

Paul Kehoe is big at the moment about offering people the 'BA experience', maybe this is the plan?

Very good point Ray. I seriously was only thinking the same thing today they are showing as much promise as Wizz and NAX...a base within 5 years would not suprise me at all. A win win for Vueling for IAG and for BHX and other uk airports...the more you think about certainly in terms of southern EU routes the more it makes logical sense...

I certainly am optimistic about vueling and what they have to offer BHX... from small acorns and all that jazz, starting from a single route modestly announces and slowly but surely building up.

with the new Locos on the block, they appear firstly to want to build up brand awareness bore investing in a base, and all 3 of our new locos seem to be doing that well with new routes and capacity increases... all started with 1-2 routes, and now have 4-6 routes!

Pretty optimistic for Vueling here at Cardiff too, seem to have gone through a good stage of consolidation after the first two years of brand awareness and getting the message of what Vueling was about , BA and IB code shares and I'm wondering how long until EI take a code share also ? Was quoted not so long ago that " it's a question of when not if" on a VY base down in CWL, I imagine over the course of the next 1-3 years the BHX offering will steadily grow into a significant presence rather than a strong one, Oh and I completely forgot this is my first post !

Welcome to the forum CraigW92. I hope that it will be the first post of many :)

I have to admit that I don't know much about Cardiff but from the little I do know it seems to be undergoing a bit of a renaissance at the moment. Vueling committing to a CWL base would surely be welcomed and I imagine it's a real possibility?

Birmingham seems to be growing steadily but surely. I'd imagine that there would be a few more years of additional frequencies and new routes before a base is considered but medium term it must be a possibility.

The VY base was mentioned by Roger Lewis ( Chairman), although they are will capable of adding new frequencies and routes from existing bases ( Rome and Florence spring to mind) without the need of opening a new one, But a VY base would be welcomed as wide as the hills I imagine for both here and Birmingam in the coming years. PMI could well be the next for Birmingham?

Summer 2017 could well see more destinations added for Birmingam, success of current and upcoming routes is the best way to encourage further growth, and I wish Vueling and Birmimgham all the best in that regard.

I think Palma could be a good possibility for S17. Ian posted the numbers not too long back and it is way down on previous years.

On a personal note I'm hoping for Florence. I had a visit planned a few years ago using the short lived Flybe service but it wasn't meant to be.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
