It's apparently due to start next year, we're just waiting for something official. Have you heard a possible start date mentioned yet?

Finnair are also rumoured to be starting next year.

I havent heard any official date, just to expect an announcement soon.

Last year their was talk of Air India operating DEL-BHX-SFO/YYZ which as we all know never materialised, but yesterday Air India agreed to take delivery of 2 additional Boeing 787-8 in November and December 2016 with 4 more being delivered in 2017 taking the fleet upto 27 Dreamliners. Maybe with the additional aircraft in the fleet maybe we could see an announcement soon!?

This would be great for BHX although AI are in talks with MAN and there is great speculation of a DEL and BOM route so the new 787s could be used for that. If there was going to be an Air India tatl route it could pass through MAN as well as we might be getting US pre-clearance and have PK/SQ fifth freedom transatlantic already. Would be great for BHX to get more YYZ though, the 1 per week A310 affair is awful and before I heard this I thought MAN was bad to Canada!

They now go to A330s in peak summer, think they've been doing that since 2013. But still paltry.

Have we heard any more from Norwegian or has Brexit scuppered their long haul plans?

Oh right! Still not great though... is the A310 weekly all year or just seasonal?
At MAN we have 5 weekly TS to YYZ (two 332 and three 313) and four or five AC Rouge 763s. In winter it is just 1 weekly. We also have TS 332 to YYC and YVR though. I do hope AI continue to grow from BHX but I hope these new dreamys are for MAN as speculated!

That's pretty much what I've heard too, it depends on the definition of 'soon'.

Air India were rumoured to be doing SFO and YYZ both through Birmingham. As we know SFO is now operating direct and YYZ ended up as a code share with Air Canada. If YYZ does return then it will also most likely be direct. The next US destination from DEL is to be Washington which again will go direct, then there is talk of Houston and SFO direct from Bangalore.

Those along with Madrid, Stockholm, Copenhagen and a couple of new routes in Africa will keep the new 787's busy for a while.

Air Transat are seasonal at BHX, May to early October. This year the A330 is used from mid-June to the end of August. I think only July and August saw the A330 last year.

The route hasn't seen any significant growth since they first introduced the A330 in 2013. The lack of competition is probably a factor and it doesn't help to have 5 weekly flights two hours up the road either ;)

10 if you count AC at MAN  and even more 2 hours down the road I guess much to BHX and MANs annoyance (n);)

Air India have been in talks with MAN for as long as i can remember, so im going for BHX on this one. Sorry MAN, you have enough to be getting excited about. :sneaky:

I don't think either will get those flights anytime soon.

BHX too has had a lot of rumours but Delta is the most interesting for me if they could ever pull it off

Sorry to burst your bubble BrumX

Air India and Vistara are in talks with MAN (the latter also being owned by Singapore Airlines boosting our chances), Air India stating at a recent trade meeting a B787 flight was on the cards.

I agree it's unlikely to be a transit flight, but, it will serve its own market so no need for BHX to worry in any way shape or form.

I don't think Delta should go to BHX as they codeshare with VS and they have no presence or intention to show any in BHX whatsoever and Atlanta would have to be operated with a 767 and with BHX struggling to sustain a 752 daily to NY this winter I don't think it has got much hope.

Air India are trying to build up a serious hub operation at DEL and appear to be having a decent level of success, MAN should be a shoe in sooner or later for them.

And thank you User001 Manchester can only have too much excitement in the eyes of a BHX supporter and the cachement area for a flight from India to MAN wouldn't effect the BHX route. Perhaps they have been in talks for a long time because they want to make sure when the route is launched it will be a great success possibly to BOM as well as DEL.

Most UK airports see capacity cuts over winter to the US, given the prices UA are quoting this winter i'm not sure struggle is the best word. DL to ATL would be a different type of market either way, much more of a transit market as apose to the O&D of the NYC services.

I think there is the same probability MAN will gain flights to India as there is BHX gains flights to China.

Both highly likely and frankly both welcome as the less we have to depend on London regionally the better.

Whether you 'think' it should happen or not is irrelevant.

As for codesharing with Virgin being the reason, I'm not sure what that has to do with anything? Delta operate into Edinburgh, which has no Virgin presence, and I'm sure there are numerous other airports with similar set ups. Just because an airline codeshares at one airport doesn't necessarily mean they have to do it at every airport.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
