Monarch have apparently had a computer system/check in failure today, delaying all flights by between 2 and 4 hours, with plenty of irate passengers tweeting them, with long queues at check in, and no sign yet of the afternoon wave of departures even leaving BHX!

Lets hope they can get this sorted, its publicity the airport does not need!

Unfortunately today's issue with Monarch check in was Internet related which prevented them from using their check in software, all passengers had to be manually checked in and bags manually tag, this also applied to people who had checked in online and who wanted to simply use the bag drop facility.

Due to the slow process of this, it meant that the bags trickled out to the aircraft from the baggage hall causing further delays to the departures.

Below is a list of the mornings departures And their departure times

Apparently it was a BT line fault that caused the check in problems. Aviators performance on the baggage handling and general handling is shocking. Would any aviator staff member like to answer why some monarch aircraft yesterday afternoon on the already delayed inbound flights did not get steps to the aircraft to disembark the passengers for over 40 mins!!!!!!!!!

The link below is interesting

The linked report suggests that Aviator is having trouble recruiting sufficient staff and that some staff who are employed have taken unauthorised absence.

I'd like to think that senior managers of Aviator were there to explain to passengers (and apologise of course) but I bet they weren't. As in most organisations it's left to the junior staff on the 'front line' to take all the flack.

I work for Aviator and was on shift on Saturday morning, feel free to message me, I won't post here the reasons why steps weren't put onto aircraft.

Indeed, apparently its available on GDS just not on their website yet...

Great news if true, another capital city currently unserved from BHX to tick off the list. It would also mark a step-change in approach with monarch who have traditionally served the med sun routes and city breaks. The furthest north they currently serve is Innsbruck.

...a sign of how the plan to fight back against Jet2...?

Seems the flight is Mon/Wed/Fri. GDS won't let me look at schedule but indicates these are flying days for BHX-ARN.

Surprise choice for a new route but a good reflection of Monarch's transition to a loco.

Will Oslo be next on the list I wonder? ARN is in Norwegian's home territory and could be a catalyst for Norwegian to start some Scandinavian routes ex BHX.

Addendum: Just seen on the MAN forum that Oporto and Zagreb are both showing up there for S17, Oporto is definitely one route which would be welcome here.

Yeah I agree with Woody, great to see Stockholm available direct from BHX and more Scandinavian choices. Its good that Monarch are trying new markets with the arrival of Jet2 and this could be a way forward for them in the future. To be honest there is lots that Monarch could do to get there teeth into if they are brave enough.

Not the most obvious route for Monarch to tackle but good to see them trying something different. They do seem to be building up a decent little network to European capitals so perhaps we are indeed seeing the start of a change in direction. Just hope this one works out better for them than Munich did.

Best suited to Nostalgia but relevant to this thread....My memory is dodgy in detail but can anyone remember when BA Birmingham closed their routes? An operater came in to take on those domestic services but I cannot recall the name....something like DUO or similar comes to mind, any ideas?

The point is that served business and EU capitals and perhaps Monarch are inching into this domain, it would be nice to think so.

It was DUO and they covered Scandinavia well with routes to Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki and Gothenburg. Another now unserved route of theirs was Vienna.

Sadly they lasted only 6 months.

According to RoutesOnline, ARN will operate on Thursday, Friday and Sunday instead of Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Other airports get Porto and/or Zagreb but BHX looks to have missed out.
Monarch Airlines in summer 2017 season is introducing a number of new service, including flights to Porto, Stockholm and Zagreb. These service will be operated by a mix of Airbus A320/321 aircraft.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
