As I understood it, the Newquay route is operated out of LBA in the afternoon using a Belfast based aircraft that would, in the summer, have gone back to Belfast, effectively filling the aircraft's time now that the Belfast flights are reducing for winter (or so I presume). So in the summer of 2017, if Belfast goes back to 5 a day as it was this summer eventually, won't Flybe need to find another way of operating this route? Perhaps that is why nothing is on sale yet, as it will be a more straightforward operation where Flybe bases are concerned. In view of the contract Flybe signed, if one or the other routes was axed to Newquay, it is more likely to be DSA, despite the fact it is on sale already.

Heather this winter the Flybe Belfast City - Leeds route remains operated 5x daily on Mon,Wed,Thu. The 5th rotation dose not operate on Tue & Fri as the aircraft dose the Leeds - Newquay service in between instead.
Weekends this winter see 2x Belfast City - Leeds flights on Saturdays whilst Sunday see's 3x Belfast - Leeds rotations and 1x Leeds - Newquay rotation which operates in between the 1st Belfast flights..

To be honest with you I would expect to see the same kind of thing happen next summer 2017 season. With the Leeds- Newquay flights operating 5x weekly on Mon,Wed,Fri,Sat & Sun meaning that Leeds - Belfast City will be 5x daily Tue,Thu and 4x daily on Mon,Wed,Fri with weekends remaining been 2x Sat and 3x Sun

If Newquay can work during the winter I hope Bristol and Exeter can be given the same opportunity.

It won't be Bristol with Flybe - the airport and airline are not bosom pals; there is a history. It would have to be a fantastic deal that Flybe could not ignore and I don't think that's very likely to be offered by BRS. I don't know about the LBA management.

Exeter maybe and perhaps Cardiff.

In the past I wondered why easyJet never tried Bristol-Leeds. There was a time when Bristol-Newcastle saw four Airbus rotations per day with nearly a quarter of a million passengers annually. In recent years the BRS-NCL has been scaled back with 2015 seeing 'only' 169,000 passengers.

Improved rail connectivity seems the reason and that applies to Bristol-Leeds too.

Flybe.com / Loganair summer 2017 flights still not on sale to Glasgow, Belfast City and Newquay from Leeds along with a load of other services from there other bases.

Anyone know whats happening? As for some reason it seem there really late this year with releasing next summers schedule compared to previous years.

Having sacked the CE because of the doubts his policy especially on flights between regional airports the way ahead, I imagine a lot of soul searching going on. Having had one Rights issue which has been a virtual disaster for investors, they must get the company on a firm footing, if it is to remain viable.

Loganair has announced the termination of the franchise with FlyBe on 31.08.2017.

No mention in the press release of Loganair serving Leeds so unless Flybe seek to operate the route in-house then it's looking like the route might be lost again?

They haven't released the GLA summer schedule yet so it could be possible of it going in house at GLA or maybe part of a based Flybe plane schedule from LBA?

Our only saving grace is the man at the helm is the one and only Jonathan Hinkles so it could be a case of discussions still taking place. Fingers crossed.

Flybe Leeds/Bradford flights to Glasgow, Belfast City and Newquay for next summer 2017 will be released for sale tomorrow.

Good news read elsewhere Loganair will continue all 43 routes it operates and is looking into opening new routes after it splits from Flybe and goes alone from September next year. It will also keep it's British Airways codeshare deal.

Great to hear flights for summer 2017 will be released tomorrow. The Loganair agreement with Flybe finishes on the 21 August 2017 according to the Loganair Press Release. So far there's no formal mention the LBA service will continue so I hope you're right LBAspotter!

Scotland's Airline spreads its wings
21st November 2016

Loganair will take to the air in its own right once again in Autumn 2017 after nearly quarter of a century flying under franchise arrangements with other airlines.
The move will create a national airline for Scotland, headquartered in Scotland

Scotland’s Airline Loganair has today announced that it will operate flights in its own right from 1 September 2017. After 24 years of operating under franchise agreements with other airlines, the Glasgow-based company will once again market its services and fly under its own name – introducing a new, definitively Scottish identity to the skies.

Loganair will provide over 1,000 flights each week across 46 routes, offering unrivalled connectivity for Scotland and with operations stretching as far afield as London, Norwich, Manchester, Dublin, and Bergen in Norway. It has almost 300 flights each week to and from Glasgow, and is the largest operator at key airports throughout the Highlands & Islands including Inverness, Sumburgh, Kirkwall and Stornoway.

The extensive Loganair network also includes the world-famous “times subject to tide” operations to the beach airport at Barra and the world’s shortest scheduled flight, linking the Orkney islands of Westray and Papa Westray with daily flights taking only two minutes.

Scotland’s Airline has operated its services under franchise agreements with British Airways, from 1993 to 2007, and latterly with Flybe from 2007. The current franchise arrangement with Flybe will conclude on 31 August 2017, although the two parties are continuing to discuss potential opportunities to work together in future.

Loganair’s long-standing and successful codeshare arrangement with British Airways will also continue, enabling customers to make a single booking for a journey from points throughout the Highlands and Islands to London and onwards to British Airways’ worldwide network.

Employing over 600 people, Loganair operates a fleet of 28 aircraft and alongside its scheduled services, undertakes an extensive range of contract services for Royal Mail and oil and gas companies. These will also carry the resurgent Loganair – Scotland’s Airline identity. After a number of recent successful contract awards, the airline is actively pursuing its ambitions to widen both its contract and scheduled service operations in future.

“Today’s announcement is a major milestone in the 54-year history of Loganair,” says Peter Simpson, Chief Executive of Airline Investments Ltd, Loganair’s parent company.

“Although Loganair has flown as a franchise carrier for larger airlines over the last 24 years, there is still a huge level of recognition and affinity for the Loganair name throughout Scotland and beyond. We believe the time is right for Scotland’s Airline to now spread its wings once again, and are delighted to be introducing a bold new corporate identity to accompany this important move.”

“On behalf of the 600-strong team at Loganair, I’m delighted that Scotland’s Airline will be taking to the skies in its own right,” says Jonathan Hinkles, Loganair’s Managing Director.

“All of us are very much looking forward to providing the highest standards of safety, punctuality and customer service synonymous with the Loganair name. We hold tremendous responsibility to operate services on lifeline routes and provide connectivity for Scotland - operating more flights in Scotland than every other airline put together - and I am wholly confident that Loganair’s independence will be warmly welcomed by both our customers and our dedicated team of professional employees.”

The transition will take place on 1 September 2017. Loganair will establish its own reservations system by March 2017 for flights on and after that date via its website at www.loganair.co.uk and will continue to take bookings via key travel agents and partner airlines in future. Summer 2017 flights will be bookable via www.flybe.com from this Wednesday, 23 November.

So on your assumption the route its getting dropped because its not mentioned in that press release. I can name other airports that aren't listed but it dosen't mean its been axed at the end of the franchise. You do realise that the Glasgow -Leeds/Bradford route is actually one of them 46 routes it operates!

Also don't forget it was Loganair who orginally applied and owned the slots for the Glasgow route, not Flybe.
Loganair at one point held slots for both Glasgow and Edinburgh routes whilst bmi regional were running services, as I clearly remember at time the LOG flight numbers kept appearing on the live arrivals boards.

I knew Jonathan well when he was a kid! Never met anyone so passionate about aviation and LBA so if there is anyone I would expect to keep the route to LBA it is him. Since they have announced flights are booking to the end of September and the franchise with Flybe ends 31 August, that seems to suggest the route will continue - at least for a month!!

One of the good things about Loganair, which was touched on in their press release, is the connectivity to the far flung wilds of Scotland. If you want to get to somewhere like Wick, Lerwick, Benbecula or Papa Westray, then Loganair is the only choice, so connections via GLA are essential. I would be interested to see a breakdown of the passenger figures to see how many people use the service to connect to other services.

At long last Flybe.com summer 2017 flights are now on sale for its 2+ Leeds/Bradford routes to Belfast City and Newquay.

Bad news first. It seems we have a slight drop on the Belfast City route with 1x of the Sunday flights (Morning rotation) been canned.
Now the good news, the new Newquay route will operate 5x weekly next summer on Monday, Wednesday & Fridays using the Belfast City based Dash 8 aircraft. whilst the Saturday & Sunday flights are operated by a Newquay based Dash 8 aircraft.

So to facilitate the Newquay service, LBA is also losing a 5th rotation to Belfast on Monday, Wednesday and Friday?

This makes no sense whatsoever considering that, in all likelihood, Monday and Friday are the busier days. I will stick my neck out a long way and suggest that, if only 4 flights are required on Monday and Friday, 5 will certainly not be required on Tuesday and Thursday.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
