Another factor is that the entire air conditioning system in the existing terminal is shot, and LBA have now had to price for replacing it as part of the terminal refurbishment. Whether that means the kit on the roof or extends to the trunking, fans and vents, I dont know. However, there is every chance that the works required may extend into the ceiling area within Check In Hall A. If it does, then any ceiling, and the grid supporting it, would have to come back down, significantly increasing costs, particularly because ceiling grids that come down, often don't go back. They need replacing.

So perhaps any ceiling finish may appear in a couple of years as part of the terminal refurbishment.

Yeah either wide gaps or something crisp and almost reflective would look better IMO. Either way I suppose we will get what we are given 😀
The problem of course is that the specialist suspended ceilings (other than the bog standard white tiles) are expensive to buy, and expensive to install, so if it then all had to come down again in 2 years from now, it would be a huge waste of money.

As long as a terminal works in terms of effectiveness of transit, I couldn't really give a monkeys as to what the ceiling looks like. That's IMO of course.
Practicality has to be no1. Having said that there are some pretty miserable terminals that I would prefer to avoid. The Billi terminal at Bordeaux being one. Dont really rate the terminal Jet2 use at CDG either.

I was there on the 4th of March and my wife and I thought work was still in progress on the ceiling. Not having a ceiling doesnt add anything to the feeling of being enclosed. Everything else is an improvement though so overall its better.
Thats exactly what i thought too when i passed thru the airport, i stayed away bcos i thought id be getting in the way of the workmen haha
Like i previously mentioned ventilation pipes and silver bits work well on tall, metal and glass buildings but no way in our terminal.
Im afraid to say the ceiling has everything to do with our airport as its low level so its got to be done correctly!

Is it my imagination or is the airport being far more proactive in publicising itself, both by its own press releases and in relevant third party publications?
No, it's not your imagination. They are, particularly on Social Media.

I suppose that this is the 'modern way'. I think if you go into the John Lewis building (if you can afford to buy there!) and look up at the ceiling- all pipewok!
Just visited the new Costa Coffee next to the Hawthorne Farm pub, facing the runway and it's really nice, but guess what! Exposed roof beams and pipework and none the worse for it either.

I've visited the new Costa twice. It should do well once the summer season gets going in earnest, especially with daily opening hours of 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In other news, a few folks from a company called RPS have been busy on the apron today; basically walking up and down the stands and drawing numbers and letters on the concrete. I don't know what this all means but airport development and expansion is one of their key areas of expertise. They have undertaken various projects for Luton and Guernsey airports, among others.

Just had a little play with Googles new AI toy, Bard. I asked Bard to create a news article about the terminal refurbishments at Leeds Bradford Airport and using all available data from the Web it created the following article. A couple of bits towards the end are interesting given this is like I say, created by using online data.

Leeds Bradford Airport Starts Work on Terminal Refurbishment

Leeds Bradford Airport has started work on a major refurbishment of its terminal building. The work, which is expected to be completed by Easter 2023, will see the installation of new self-service check-in kiosks, automated bag drops, and e-gates. The terminal will also be extensively refurbished, with new flooring, lighting, and seating.

The refurbishment is part of a £100 million investment plan by Leeds Bradford Airport, which is aimed at improving the passenger experience and increasing capacity. The airport has seen passenger numbers grow steadily in recent years, and it is now the busiest airport in the North of England outside of London.

The refurbishment work is being carried out by a team of contractors, and it is expected to have minimal impact on day-to-day operations at the airport. Passengers are advised to check the airport's website for updates on the progress of the work.

In a statement, Leeds Bradford Airport CEO Vincent Hodder said: "We are delighted to be starting work on this major refurbishment of our terminal building. This is a significant investment in our airport, and it will help us to provide our passengers with a better experience when they travel with us.

"The new self-service check-in kiosks and automated bag drops will make it quicker and easier for passengers to check in for their flights. The refurbished terminal will also be a more pleasant and welcoming environment for passengers."

The refurbishment of the terminal is part of a wider investment plan by Leeds Bradford Airport. The airport is also planning to build a new control tower and a new multi-storey car park. The investment plan is expected to create hundreds of new jobs at the airport.

It would be exciting, but we must realize that this is also what it came up with:
The airport has seen passenger numbers grow steadily in recent years, and it is now the busiest airport in the North of England outside of London.
Fairly impressive though

Forgive me if you have already said @White Heather but have you any idea how long before we might have to wait before we learn more about the terminal work?
The CEO hoped to provide more information at the June Consultative Meeting, by which time, hopefully, funding will be secured . It's due to start in the Autumn all things being equal.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
