Yes I agree that the A6120 should be made a dual carriageway from Horsforth to Dawsons Corner. When I was still working for LCC Highways I made a point of asking why this could not be done as there is land available which is within the curtilage of the highway. I was told that the problem was with the bridges over the river, railway and canal. My answer was to put a footbridge over at the side of the highway as at Otley. I was told it was too expense to do that.

Horsforth Vale...right next to the ring road...railway line right next to it (exactly where Calverley & Rodley station was)...err Park & Ride station please!!

I think half the trouble with such a station is whilst it would accommodate a good chunk of the traffic from the estate heading into Leeds, Ilkley or Bradford as @lbaspotter has pointed out below - it would just create more traffic on that section of the ring road. And overwhelm an already overwhelmed system.

The next problem is that the piece of railway in which it passes the estate, is one busy section of railway. I would imagine it would be a nightmare trying to fit in a stop/start service on that line, especially with the services that run none-stop to Shipley or Guiseley. They would probably need to create a lay-by station to allow the faster services to pass. We've got Kirkstall Forge & Apperley Bridge which seem to have been accommodated (just) but another station may be a struggle unless they invest in lay-by station. On Paper it is a fantastic idea - but in reality it would be a logistical nightmare.

This is the issue with the Ilkley Line. It goes into single line between Appearly Bridge junction and just behind Yeadon Westfield estate. To accommodate anymore services on this they need to widen the line to accommodate an extra line of track. Or they get larger carriages/trains, but then the trouble is can the platforms accommodate them on all stations across the whole Wharfdale/Airdale/Bradford lines.

Seriously a Park and, Ride Rail Station at Rodley I believe that would create yet even more traffic on that section of the ring road.

I think everyone agrees Leeds City Council needs to duel the carriageway of the Ring Road section between Horsforth and Pudsey. But the bridges over the Leeds - Liverpool Canal, Railway line and River Aire are a real pain in the arse and will need either strenghing again or better totally replaced . A feasibility study is due to take place very soon.

What a nightmare. They build an estate then realise that they may never be able to widen the bridges. You sometimes wonder if there is any clever people in the council that see the larger picture before signing things such as traffic, local road arrangements & any constraints that may occur if they try to develop the area etc.

I believe they are also hoping to start works at Horsforth to widen the Ring Road section between the (A65) Roundabout and Fink Hill junction.

What a nightmare junction. Looking at the plans i hope it improves that section but i very much doubt it will.

The problem with the 3+ said bridges is that they have been strengthened numerous times over years due the increasing traffic flow. Everytime they have done this the carriageway width has reduced.
Hence the carriageway is so narrow now that next time they try to fix it on cheap they may lose space for the right-hand filter lane for turn into the New Housing estate.

The whole problem could be fixed by installing 1 bridge spanning the whole Canal, Railway and river whilst dualing the whole section of Ring Road between the A647/Dawson Corner - Rodley - A65/Horsforth junctions.
Hopefully Leeds City Council with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority will be able to find the funds to do this work.

A lot more objections on today - need I say that we need to push for more support!! Maybe worth posting the links and how to write support onto the Facebook groups?

I got another 5 today with possibly 5 more - this was always going to be a struggle due to students and Extinction Rebellion who will get people all over to object just as they do another airports. The plans I discussed with LBA to boost the pro numbers is a non starter now with the airport shut!

if somebody could put together and post an idiots guide as to how to sign up / post a support comment im sure all members on here would be very grateful - i do not have facebook so can not post - however i believe some of the spotters groups have a couple of thousand likes.. with people not got anything better to do im sure it will be worth a shot and be successful..? any volunteers? lol

The whole problem with the Aire Valley line is that no-one looked at the problem with great hindsight and realised that there is an entire 4 track track bed in place all the way from Kirkstall loops to Dockfield Junction at Shipley. They could have reinstated 4 tracks and created platform passing loops at Kirkstall Forge and Apperley Bridge. Re-doubling Apperley Junction to Springs Junction is a must. I believe from memory that overhead line clearance was a real issue with the tunnels which was why they single tracked it to create more room in the top of the tunnels for the catenary wires. The alternative would have been to lower the track bed which would have been more expensive. There is still ample room to reinstate a bi-directional freight loop if they wanted to from Kirkstall Forge all the way to Dockfield Jcn, which would keep the aggregates traffic off the main lines. And yes, the ring road needs ripping up and starting again!!

Not to detract from LBA - but i believe, maybe at some point we had this very same discussion.

I've submitted my support. I have sent the link to everyone I know who frequently uses the airport. Everyone who frequently uses the airport knows how inadequate it is on all levels and they all seem to support a new terminal.

The only problem with the Facebook groups is they also bring lot's of hate and unsupportive comments. I have personally replied to multiple comment on the likes of 'Leeds List' posts, multiple comments say the money should be spent on the NHS not realising that AMP are financing the project. Instead of voting against the terminal they should vote against the Torys then the NHS would be in a better position!

There seems to be a lot of objection comments from people who live near the airport. Which simple baffles me. You bought the house by the airport, you deal with the noise. Most residents I know close to the airport are used to the planes and haven't even realised they haven't been flying over!

It has always been that way. As I have said many times, many NIMBYs are simply hiding behind the Environmentsalist banner to make their cause look less selfish. The lies being spread that this terminal will result in masses of night flights is just what LACAN used to do and in the end they were proved to be liars at worst, and manipulating the truth at best.

Indirectly linked to the airport redevelopment.

But..

"Executive board member and leader of Leeds City Council’s Conservatives group Andrew Carter said the projected lost revenue to the city centre between March and the end of May could be as much as £338m."

Would be a good idea to add the financial implications of Covid-19 to Leeds, when writing your support to LCC. Emphasis on how the airport can bring job creation. Etc...

My support, along with my parents has been added, I’ll chase up my brothers tomorrow and then friends thereafter.

The issue which was I think pointed out earlier by White Heather is simply most supporters just don’t feel the need to show it, where as the opposition are all over it writing in their inflated lies.

It very much reminds me of trip advisor. Most comments are negative because the people who actually had a nice stay or meal etc simply don’t feel the need to say so, whereas if you find worm on your salad you’ll make sure you tell the world!

Does anyone know the deadline for the public to show support or oppose this project?

:wtf:

The infuriating thing is if you buy a house near to the flight path, you essentially benefit from a discount priced into your house for the inconvenience. To then complain when you chose to live near the airport knowingly taking said discount is disingenuous.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
