As much as we need LBA to have the new terminal and we hope the Leeds CC passes the application, we must remember that the NIMBYS can still upset the apple cart. If it is passed and if a big fuss is made by these people, then the transport minister can 'call it in' so that he can make the decision. This happened last time with the runway extension and it laid on his desk for two years, before he sent it back to Leeds City to make the final decision that went through on the 'nod'.
After that matter, if it is resolved in favour then if there are still objections, it can go to a Judicial Review
An example of this is Chris Packham who took HS2 to Judicial Review because he didn't accept. to the Government's Decision.
All very costly and time consuming., and these people are well aware of this. If it jumps all the hurdles then they could say 'well at least we had some success because we delayed it.

It's a bizarre situation we're in with the airport already having received planning approval for facilities to accommodate up to 7m passengers.

The new proposals have the same capacity limit except this time with a new green modern terminal.

Although I am sure the green fanatics will do everything they can to stop the proposals, It's difficult to imagine how plans for a green terminal could possibly be knocked back on the basis of growth that has already been accepted.

According to one of the media outlets, the proposed terminal actually has a slightly reduced floor plan compared with the current terminal.

Yes I agree, but these people don't take that into consideration, after all there will be aircraft coming in and out of the airport all night long and all that pollution and noise and all the traffic on the A658, and we might have to fell a couple of trees.

reg the floor plan, the new terminal is not made up of loads of smaller rooms, odd shaped corridors and bits sticking on here and there, due to its square shape and the fact its on 3 levels anyway it will be far more spacious and light

If this is dragged through the courts. The defining argument would be this point - that the airport had already previously been given the greenlight.

Another argument if this lands with the Transport Secretary.....could be around national security!! ... i wouldnt be surprised if future UK policy would include enhanced bio security checks in airports i.e. Covid screenings,.....space for which I presume the airport does not have.

I am glad they have done this. It was one of the options I discussed with them back on February and they said they were thinking of doing it when the time came. A week ago would have been better but better late than never. Support from the business community, Chambers of Commerce etc. is vital and they have a lot of influence!

The YEP have now published positive letters on their Web page as an article...

But I've yet to see them tweet about it like they did with the negative one.

Also the negative one was their main website story but the positive one seems hidden away...

It looks a though the LBA email has encouraged a fair number of folk to get their fingers out and do something. I have read a few of them (both sides) and a surprising number of the support comments (bearing in mind that many pf them will be responding because of the gee up email) have been well thought out with good original reasoning and succinct points made. The object comments that I read however mainly consisted of the very tired 'party line'. Very few original thinkers and thoughts, I am pleased to say.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
