yes 8mins is far better than 2min, those against will more than likely all say exactly the same thing (noise and environment) but no doubt without any facts and figures to back it up, because we know they will bring them 2 subjects up the goal is to get the true data on the table, the true facts!
one more point because we on here know what we are talking about when it comes to types of aircraft and the new super quiet ones (eg A320 neo , A220) this puts the ball in our court too. they wont have a clue!

Great points WH.

I don't know what to think anymore I'm staying positive but I am still worried about the Stansted and Bristol decisions. And the fact that the CEO who has led on this leaves 10 days before the decision. I can't get my head around it at all.

I just don't know what to make of it as it gets nearer. Too many conflicting thoughts at the moment...hope and then worry.

One more point from my father haha Elland road and leeds utds future plans (hillary bens constituency) which if all go to plan ie new training facilities plus ground improvements and the 5 year plan to bring European football to the city, the away support that would be travelling to elland road may well have to use manchester Airport due to inadequate facilities at LBA (widebody aircraft) and if away fans did use the current airport its not setting a good image for the city. Plus the fans will spend money out of our region.

Although the departing CEO told me that he was looking forward to seeing LBA become the airport it should have been. Not sure if he meant a superb new airport, or a flying club. (Again).

Agreed. It never has though and Leeds Council don't care.

Agreed. It never has though and Leeds Council don't care.

It's been Labour since 1980's with no real leader/political party leading between 2004-2010 (ironically a Lid Dem/Conservative coalition before 2010-2015 UK government one - I guess Leeds sets that trend anyway I digress) and has really never had any vision for the future. Apart from overwhelming the road network with new housing estates, forgetting about transport infrastructure, and more recently just building cycle lanes in every single nut and cranny of the city.

From what I see from the new leader of the council he's pragmatic. Yes we are aware of the climate crises, but how can we bang on about it, when we have an inadequate airport terminal and send a good chunk of passengers off to Manchester every where then they can fly locally from their airport. Its ridiculous if you ask me.

Also, if they don't approve the terminal, is there really any point in the parkway station?

The Leeds Corn Exchange revamp got council approval today, maybe they’re on a roll!! Like most things, to make progress, you have to break eggs to make an omelette.

Wouldn’t it be nice to show our city off to tourists when the world allows to get all businesses back up and thriving. My word they need it and as a Leeds taxpayer I welcome this development but it needs to be matched by commitment to the airport and make our city fit for purpose in the 21st century

But haven't they always said that they are committed to the airport? Is it possible that they have been telling Porkies? Surely not!

The Council policy says that. The question is whether 13 panel members will follow their council policy, or go against it and bow down to a bunch of bullying fanatics.
I can't see LBA losing an appeal as their plan complies with Council policy AND Governmental aviation policy. The arguments put forward by GALBA have all been dismissed by the Planning Officer. If they reject, they must know it could cost the city a lot of money to fight an appeal that even the Plans Panel members admitted they were likely to lose.

Sherburnflyer is right. If they weren't intending to approve the terminal then why develop a Parkway station? But the cynic in me thinks that in terms of the warped logic of the council their rationale is that it would become a much needed park and ride into the City and beyond for the North West Leeds population corridor....with or without LBA's expansion.
The real issue is that Leeds Council has tied themselves in knots by declaring a Climate Emergency Motion. These Councillors are now voting on the airport plans.

They have backed themselves into a corner with this darn Climate Emergency motion. It was a short sighted strategy as what does it mean in reality? Less planes but more cycle lanes no doubt.

I agree its going to be torture.
Best of wishes today, it’s fantastic that whilst it seems that you are stretching your comfort zone, you have stepped forward, you can’t do any more than give it your best.
As an aside - whilst I’m aware it has to go to government (if approved), will a decision be made today or do they take it away and return a decision later (that question is aimed at anyone who knows)?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
