Great news and congratulations to all who fought for this much needed project. Lets hope any delays are minimal and that construction can get underway as soon as possible. Next we need the go ahead for the Parkway station and LBA will then be looking forward to a better future.... as soon as this pandemic is under control that is ! Hopefully we should hear of airlines who may manifest an interest in operating out of Leeds to come forward soon.

In my view he shouldn't be on the panel at all. Totally opposed from the outset.
i watched the whole 8hrs of the meeting of which apparently its one of the longest council meetings ever, when each member of the council were giving their decision that walshaw kept butting in, very rude id say! probably a difficult question but long we recon to start of construction?

They need to agree conditions and then bring back to another plans meeting to confirm on those. Presumably that's a couple of months. Then called in to govt for approval presumably 6 months minimum? Then sign contracts with builders etc. A year if we are lucky to start construction?

like everything in this country, takes ages or never happens! i suppose now we know its approved LBA management can start putting the word out to possible new airlines

Fantastic news and congratulations to all those that have supported the airport and the development and passionately put forward the argument for it to happen. Now lets see it get built with the Parkway station, and aviation in Leeds will have taken a giant leap forward.

I would guess that LBA always knew their would be conditions to be applied as and when approved. So the application was still submitted knowing there would be acceptable compromise. This approval is absolutely amazing news and I would like to thank everyone on here who has contributed in one way or another. What is also really pleasing to see is the congratulations coming from other areas of the country. As enthusiasts we are all very passionate about our local airports, often gloating when we have services/facilities other airports don’t, but there is a clear sense of coming together to support UK aviation as a whole to get back on its feet. THANK YOU

I could have watched the entire portfolio of Star Wars films in the time this took to decide. Eat that GALBA...off to Manny you go!! I am guessing we have smashed the world record for the number of posts on a thread in a single 24 hour period. Right, I put the scotch away now.

Can I suggest that what we need to do next is leave comments on press articles and whenever possible contribute to phone-ins etc. Today and over the coming weeks and months I have no doubt that, encouraged by GALBA and politicians in opposition the media will be doing their best to accentuate the negative and eliminate the positive which will raise more support in the general public. We have to counter this. So if Radio Leeds have a phone in get on the phone and defend the airport, if the Wharfedale publish an article then leave a comment, likewise the evening post, Calendar etc.

Morning all, ive only just managed to read and catch up on all these posts. I watched the decision last night and when the first 3 rejected my hear sunk, I wasn't expecting the result we got! Big congrats to all involved and the airport team, hope they are chuffed this morning. Special thanks to @LBAYORKIE for your contribution today.

The negotiations I don't think are too bad and I'm sure the airport was expecting some negotiations, hopefully they can comprise/agree and getting digging ASAP. Like LBAYORKIE said above, get liking / retweeting posts on Facebook / Twitter about it, making positive comments.

GaLBA seem to be all bark no bite, with their reject petition only having 450 ish signatures in over a year. when they stage "massive" protests, their was what 20 people max there? LOL ok.. I wouldn't class XR as an LBA based protest as they are countrywide and protests against all climate change.

..+ thanks from another member well under the flight path (Menston) After the contribution from the lady down BLeach Mill Lane, my heart sunk, but the quality of antis was apalling. I hope to live long enough to pass through the doors of Captain Tom's Terminal. I DID watch ALL of it!.

One factor VASTLY in our favour was that "they" went first, and we could then counter some of their peculiar logic.

Direct flights to OSL. We can now reaistically dream!

The lady from Menston wasn't dead against expansion, I think she just wanted aircraft to stick more closely to the designated departure route- if I understood correctly.

Which they do. It's an ongoing issue in Menston. They never stop moaning, claiming flights are off track, but the data shows the percentage on track is consistently in the high 90s% and when they are not it's usually weather related.

If its a matter of perception then maybe the airport need to soend some more time with the residents.

Would be good for the airport to spend some money in the communities around the airport on things like local carnivals and other events, giving something back you might say.

I do agree with that. LBA needs to do a lot more out in the community to build trust.

I also agree with your previous comment regarding the need to continue showing support for the airport by commenting positively on articles in the press. Generally people only comment when they have negative words to say. People who are supportive generally keep quiet. It's very much like when people go for a meal at a restaurant, they will tell all their friends and family if they have a bad experience, but they'll probably never think to tell anyone if they have a good experience.

How about a TV series extolling the wonderful virtues of the airport ))))))))))

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
