There's been a few plans for the short stay lower bowl over the years. At least one deck parking scheme muted.
I can recall the surveyors measuring up for it on more than one occasion. I think last time was under Bridgepoint ownership but then the economy crashed and that put a stop to any development and Bridgepoint did a bunk.

So true. All the millions promised disappeared with the crash. Surreal to think we are now on the verge of hopefully a world class terminal.
The difference this time is the airport must grasp the chance or it will never get the opportunity again. The wider implications for the Leeds City Region are enormous. We already lose so much business to Manchester. Our airport and wider transport problems are holding the city back in every way.

Somewhat futile given the scheme complies with published Government Policy. Another delaying tactic. Perhaps the are now thinking they don't have a legal challenge case so are trying another tack.
Desperate people.

I have just dropped Me Jenrick an email.

Good morning,

I write to you in response to a certain group by the name of GALBA contacting you, whose sole aim is to try to derail this scheme. I believe Leeds City Council, in provisionally approving this scheme, have undertaken an incredibly rigorous assessment, and have made the decision in line with current govt policy.

There is massive support for this scheme, both from an economic as well as an environmental perspective. LBA have put huge effort into ensuring any potential negative environmental impact is mitigated.

I trust the communication from GALBA will be treated with the contempt it deserves.

Yours sincerely

Seems more than likely given this that any legal advice they have taken so far is that Plan A, a judicial review, is a non starter so it’s on to Plan B. The Government calling it in at a time of economic Armageddon and its stated intention to level up the North and increase its prosperity would not be a good look politically.

Have knocked up a letter to the Ilkley Gazette in the hope that they will publish it;

LBA terminal scheme must happen!!

In response to the recent article in regards to the anti progress group GALBA calling for a public enquiry, I believe their stance is based entirely around ignorance. The provisionally approved terminal scheme is a far more eco friendly facility than the current building constructed way back in the 1960s. LBA have gone above and beyond in addressing environmental issues with initiatives recently announced including the development of a hydrogen powered transport hub. Commercial aircraft are becoming increasingly fuel efficient/less polluting and quiet. The development of a parkway railway station is at an advanced planning stage. Suppressing LBA development will simply result in the displacement of passengers to neighbouring airports and consequential environmental impact. Leeds City Council, in provisionally approving this scheme, have undertaken an incredibly rigorous assessment, and have made the decision in line with current govt policy. There is massive support for this scheme, both from an economic as well as an environmental perspective. The people of Yorkshire deserve a high class airport. Now is the time to deliver.

Government Policy is to make greater use of Regional Airports to reduce pressure on South Eastern airports, as stated in the Planning Report, and no doubt GALBA know that, so they are asking for the Government to block a scheme which is in line with their own policy. It was also supported by local Conservative MPs.

I feel as if a weight has been lifted off me now the terminal has been given the green light....more choice for pax, better working conditions, enhanced customer experience and more employment choices in the aviation sector in the region. We've not had a lot to smile about over the last year but this news has definitely cheered me up.

Let’s hope that those Conservative MP’s are bending the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Robert Jenrick’s ear together with the likes of Labour’s Tracy Brabin who also supports the new terminal.

If these 'people' decide to go for a Judicial Review, I wonder if they realise what the cost would be?. I've just been reading about such a review this last week , where the Government were taken to task for not adhering to the law regarding contracts give out to companies for the PPE. The Government lost and the cost was £200,000

Well, like I said before, £30k, the amount they are crowdfunding for, will probably cover the advice as to whether they can build a case for a judicial review. The planning document alone runs to 200+ pages then there are all the reports and documents. If they lose a review, I assume they will have to pay their costs in full and potentially any incurred by Leeds City Council too, so they will need a lot more than £30k.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
