I always believe I am a realist and as much as I am very happy about the current situation I do think we should perhaps take a step back, take a deep breath and relax. I really do share in your happiness and the future does look really promising but I have never been in favour of gloating at opponents wether in sport, life or business because it can have a bad habit of coming back to haunt you. If I am speaking out of turn please put me right and I will apologise unreservedly but I believe we are better than this current invective against protesters. Rise above it I say.
I guess it just shows the passion we have for LBA, in todays world there is always a battle, we dont want to fall at the final hurdle, it has happened many times before, but i do know where your coming from (y)

Our totally useless MP, Alex Sobel , has written to Robert Jenrick MP, on his posh House of Commons paper, asking him to call in the decision.
This battle isn't over and we could still be fighting it in another 18 months due to people like this. I have no doubt the other 4 Leeds MPs will copy and paste on to their own letters too.
This is why it's important that as many of you as possible send a quick email to Jenrick via his Ministerial web address to counter the demands of the anti airport lobby.

Defo been influenced by GALBA. Guy doesn't have a backbone - like Labour themselves. Useless at there very best.

I expect the government will also have a fiscal responsibility to ensure the public purse provides value for money. Just a quick Google at the cost of a public enquiry flags the Bloody Sunday enquiry which cost £192m. The majority of that was spent on legal representation, a figure which is more than LBA plans to spend on its new terminal. Clearly, although a public enquiry is necessary in some instances, the government will have to strike a balance to protect the public purse. In this instance, what's the point of spending more money on a public enquiry especially when the likely outcome is only a delay to the airports plans.

Alex Sobel is just like the rest of the Labour MP’s in Leeds just waiting for mine Rachael Reeves to get on bored with all this crap

this was posted on Alex Sobels Twitter hope the link works

Maybe that video of Alex Sobel should find it's way to the Secretary of State.

Chris Foren (GALBA) is basically a Green Party campaigner who living locally has decided to campaign against the airport. His pals at Leeds University keep building more and more student skyscrapers and inviting thousands of foreign students to Leeds who arrive by air yet Chris Foren doesn't flinch an eyelid. It's almost as if he has a personal vendetta against the airport as he overlooks all other co2 emissions.

Just a further reminder, ground based carbon emissions amount to 98% of all emissions.

I agree with WH, maybe its me being overly worried but its going to rumble on. These groups have money. If it doesn't get called in by Jenrick I can see this going to Judicial Review. Johnson's close advisers ( including his fiancee) are all outspoken environmentalists so its not clear what his position is, though remember he loves cycling!!!!

BJ on a bicycle. Now there’s a thought! After all the money the government are spending on Furlough etc. I am not sure they will risk further millions of public money on an enquiry that may not go in their favour. But you can never say never with politicians. An odd bunch at the best of times. Surely common sense needs to prevail here!

I have emailed Mr Sobel, sadly my local MP to express my upset including a link to the above youtube video:

Mr Sobel,

I understand you are contacting Secretary of State Robert Jenrick to call for the Planning application for the REPLACEMENT terminal building at LBA to be called in.

I also know you objected and pushed hard for the application to be denied.

How hypocritical given your video above.

The facts are the airport already holds approval for 7.1 million passengers per annum from the previously approved terminal extension which they are still able to build if the new application is denied, all you will achieve is pushing the airport to build a far less efficient, more polluting extension still with an increase in passenger numbers. Remember as well the airport is already a 24 hour airport.

I realise you feel the need to appeal to our new left wing woke culture but your arguments are flawed.

As one of the largest employers in North Leeds and your constituency I am appalled at your stance and as the MP in my area you can not expect my or my families support at the upcoming local elections.

Begrudgingly yours

So it is ok to bring in 10’s of thousands of students from all over the UK and the world the majority of which certainly didn’t walk here , in their trendy clothes, living in newer halls of residence/ modern flats made of ...oh concrete and steel not requiring much energy to produce? ...eating take aways in non-recyclable packaging.
Their education is not free, professors salaries are eye wateringly high, research equipment expensive and imported, field trips are not cheap.
I take my responsibility to help the environment as a given and try to limit any adverse impact on it, but save growing wings or gills I sure as hell would choose air travel abroad over sea rather than just stay in Blighty and listen to these intellectuals pontificating on matters they clearly choose to ignore in their own lives because of vested self interests.
All that being said where are the scientists and experts extolling the virtues and efforts of an industry to make the recognised and necessary Improvements in propulsion systems that play their full part in climate change??

Good stuff. I'm going to email him with the government aviation strategy and highlight that he may want to give that a read.

That is the second time recently you have had a go at me, telling me I am gloating , which I am not. I am angry at the MPs. Angry at GALBA. How is that gloating? I have worked damned hard, with others, to help LBA get this approval. I am not putting my time in to benefit myself so I object strongly to you again suggesting I am gloating, just as you did after the first decision.
I have for some time been wondering if it's worth all the hassle and whether now us a good time to pack this in and you have just helped me make my decision!

Do not pack it in @White Heather. Your key to all this and your passion for aviation and the local airport is always on demonstration. Not gloating in any sense - just pointing out that some MP's are easily influenced without taking into account every bit of evidence.

I'll second that your knowledge is valuable and the info you provide from the consultative committee is brilliant.

We are all passionate supporters of LBA and we all feel equally frustrated and angry with the ignorance and naivety being displayed by GALBA and the likes of Sobel. I personally feel that the new scheme will materialize, even if these morons manage to delay the process.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
