How ironic this is coming from the Labour party Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Barbin.

Although in agreement with you on Tracy, @lbaspotter your unequivocal support of the Conservatives has not helped the situation here. They haven't exactly supported LBA have they??? Labour lead Leeds City Council passed off this application and the Conservative government called it in.

I'm a firm beliver in offering support where it is due but I for one cannot say the Conservatives have helped us one bit here, and so they will most definitely NOT be getting my support in the future.

Really Disappointing news but it’s what I expected, but let’s get this extension build and have planes landing all through the night and bombard are useless MP’s with noise complaints Constantly, then at least they can accept they have messed up once again
Can we get PIA back with A310’s noise machines

The only reasonable course of action for the LBA management. If they were prepared to wait that long any decision following the public inquiry would, in political terms, be close to a general election. The decision would be a ministerial one, rather than by the Planning Inspectorate so a sensible decision would be highly unlikely.

Such a sad day for LBA but its clear the management team want to get on cashing in on the recovery and can't base promises to new airlines on plans that may never happen! The main thing is the 'walk of shame' to Gates 9/10 (fondly known by LS staff as the Cookridge suite) is going to be replaced!!!!!!

LBA withdraws application for terminal replacement

Leeds Bradford Airport has announced it is withdrawing its planning application for a replacement terminal building following excessive delays and the decision to call in plans by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

With large investment in the scheme so far, airport bosses say they are not prepared to commit a further uncapped sum over an indefinite timeframe into a public inquiry process when their focus needs to be on modernising the airport for the future.

The airport will instead turn its attention to developing the extension to the existing terminal, originally approved by Leeds City Council in 2019, to enable it to meet the rapidly increasing passenger demand as the aviation sector recovers from the pandemic.

The replacement terminal plans, which would have delivered a purpose designed, BREEAM excellent rated terminal building, were about meeting demand already approved under the 2019 consent in a more sustainable way, allowing the airport to achieve its environmental targets more quickly within an ambitious new development.

LBA remains committed to delivering its 2030 Carbon Net Zero Roadmap and to creating a modern, decarbonised regional UK airport within the extension scheme.

Vincent Hodder, CEO of Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “It is with regret that we have made the decision to withdraw LBA’s application for the development of a new replacement terminal.

“As the travel and aviation industry continues to recover from the impacts of the pandemic, LBA needs to be able to respond to rapidly increasing demand within the next few years.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported us in the planning process, from the general public to the business community and councils across Yorkshire. Whilst this is a setback for our airport and region, we remain committed to investing in LBA to be an outstanding, decarbonised, modern airport for the future.”

“My team and I are optimistic about the recovery from the pandemic and about the future of Leeds Bradford Airport”

Further details of the extension scheme will be released in the coming months

Not turning this into a political spat with you @Aviador, as you & I both know how much effort has been put into this by all involved over past 2 years. But I fail to see how my "own" support for Conservatives has had any effect into LBA management making its decision today.

Total waste of space, and STILL sitting on that goddamn fence.
I am off out now before LBA4Ever sees this news.
Im right here WH haha i was just holding back my anger on the sideline, my words for todays news will no way be aloud on here so i will try remain calm!
So thats it, 3 years arsing about for absolutely nothing! Once again good old LBA falling at the final hurdle, the excitement we all had on here when the plans were announced and what really takes the micky is that LCC actually approved the plans, so to be cancelled by the government who want to level up the north (which is basically mancs) is just an absolute p***take! Its laughable but then again this aint funny!
So that's it, im afraid to say LBA Will never really change, we might see an increase in jet2 and ryanair but you can forget the likes of LH, SAS, jetblue or even a pakistan route because no one will entertain flying into a 1960s shed! Angry!!

A sad day as everyone's says, but for me, I think it now takes away the uncertainty of any development taking place for what could have been 2 more years, and then the result could have been no to the new terminal. Now LBA can get on and develop the current terminal and make it more "up to date" and increase those flights and passengers.

As for GALBA, I am so pleased they are now completely scuppered in their chances of ruining the airport with no development.......You have failed in your mission 100% as we get the expansion the airport wanted and had approved and no one can stop that, and you will have to accept LBA will have an expanded terminal not green and carbon friendly like the new one would have been...all I can say is serves you right for not getting behind what would have been one of the greenest terminals in the world.

This is really disappointing, but I am pleased that they have been decisive and will now crack on. As for Tracy our local mayor, she has shown herself to be not worth the ink on anyone’s ballot- hopefully her time in office will be shorter than her self promotion speeches.

As an aside, I think people are rightly frustrated and upset at the moment, but I think it is important that we all still respect that a forum is an open space and we may not all share the same views, even if if some are recycled :)

I have a question for LBA4EVER:
What would you say in 2 years, time after a public inquiry, if they reversed the planning approval for a New Terminal?

As you keep banging on about, we need improvement in facilities now. It is not the best outcome but much better than sitting doing nothing for 2 years and finding that you have to use the 2019 planning approval anyway

I listened to her speech, on line, and I was so incensed that I called her a ????????? Fortunately my wife didn't hear me as my trip to BSL next month would have been cancelled.
Unfortunately I can't give my opinion or vote her out as I live in East Yorkshire.

I love this. This is one of the biggest own goals GALBA and local MPs have scored. Yes it's not the preferred solution but it's a solution none the less. Just need all the new airline and route announcements to follow now

LBA BA night stopper.
Extra Ryanair is going to 3 this summer hope it stays for Winter. 4 next Summer?
easyJet expansion of Belfast and add more cities.

It possibly says on the links, but unfortunately my eye sight couldn’t read the smallest text. Does any one know what square meterage the new extension will be. Will the addition to the existing structure give roughly the same space as what was proposed for the brand new terminal?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
