Perhaps a little more info from same forum. I have no insider knowledge regarding this so it is all rumours of course

'I've heard about a Gulf carrier going to LBA too but not Emirates! Too close to MAN and NCL to risk the operation there especially as both have had an upgage recently.

I was told QR initially on an A320.'

Could a a320 make it to the gulf states?

I know that Qatar and Etihad use a range of A320/A321 aircraft in cities in Europe such as; Venice, Istanbul etc, but don't know if they'd be able to make it to the UK...

Probably not is the answer, and with the limited amount of passengers an A321 can bring to/from a potentially busy Gulf route, I think an A330 would be the better utilised for LBA!

You never know it might be none of the big three after all RAK airways and Fly Dubai have just been granted permission to operate into the UK so it couldbe one of this after all the 757 can't operate non stop from middle east and RAK are currently leasing s JET2 757!!!

Qatar airways? Not a chance. Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and even Bristol higher priority than LBA. Much to the annoyance of LBA, MAN is servin the north just fine for Qatar.

it's unlikely that it'll be Flydubai as they only operate B737's and RAK Airways only have the B752 that they leased from Jet2. Call me stupid but what about Gulf Air? Are they considering operating flights into and out of Leeds?

I dunno about that, A daily Fly Dubai service Dubai - Istanbul - Leeds would work really well if you ask me.

And as for Gulf Air they could, they have a tie in with one world, but there a tad short on long haul fleet atm, although they have an order for 20 A330's and 16 787's all due for delivery by 2019.

I'd doubt Etihad either, they are making MAN their European HQ so will not want to dilute that.

I'd say Bahrain us having too many issues to be Gulf air.

Alot of comments/rumours on another forum about a gulf carrier and many saying they have heard of QR A320? any thoughts?

I don't think the A320 has the range to do that without stopping for fuel. I'd find it strange if Qatar used a A320 on the Doha route instead of a A330 unless they use the A320 early on to see how things go and then upgrade to a A330 if things are going well. However, this is just speculation at the moment so lets not got too excited about this.

Hi just to add to the middle east rumour. I've heard that a certain Pakistan Carrier that use to operate into LBA is looking at returning to the UK soon as they are about to acquire 2x Airbus A330-300's to recommence long haul ops.

Now that would stir it up with PIA and maybe intice them to get the Boeing 777's in to LBA before hand. I also hear that Airblue are to upgrade there Manchester-Islamabad service from the current Airbus A319/320 operation to an much larger Airbus A340 sometime later this summer.

Shaheen perhaps..?

With Air Blue possibly upgrading as well, it looks as though PIA are in trouble both at LBA and MAN...!!

Nothing beats a bit of competition!

no surprise air blue are opting for the A340at type of aircraft is cheap to aquire now.

deffo got be Shaheen only airline i can think of i hope they choose karachi not islamabad that way it gives people the choice of the north of the country or the souh.

i doubt pia will think much of lba ops if it is true regarding air blue and man they will be more concerned on the operations than lba.

als slighlt off topic but if that is the case with shaheen hopefully they can reinstate the gla to lahore route.

If it is Shaheen then they should operate to either Lahore or Karachi that way it could steal a few passengers from Manchester. Regarding PIA, I think they have ordered 5 777-300ER's but they may need to operate a B777-200 if they want to compete with Shaheen. It would be nice to see a regular A330 coming in if these rumours are true.

Just to back up the rumour that Shaheen Air maybe acquiring a couple of Airbus A330's soon for both short haul and long haul operations. Here's the advertisement for them recruiting Airbus A330 type rated Captains and First Officers. It also states that the crews would be based at Karachi.

Source: http://aerojob.cz/data/Shaheen_Air_A330_NEW.pdf

I also understand that Shaheen Air have started to replace there ageing Boeing 737-200's with Boeing 737-400's. I got to admit the full The Shaheen Air livery would look great on a Airbus A330 if it happens.

Hmmm do we need a fantasy airport thread?!

Perhaps a reality check here - there is nothing to suggest that Shaheen will operate to LBA, and indeed there has been talk in the past of them operating in competition to PIA out of a certain, very quiet South Yorkshire airport that boasts (frequently) about its long runway. However, Shaheen A330's to Karachi or Lahore would go down very nicely at LBA with PIA upgrading to the 777. Maybe that is what Aroosh meant when he recently commented about the 777 coming sooner than we thought?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
