indeed there has been talk in the past of them operating in competition to PIA out of a certain, very quiet South Yorkshire airport that boasts (frequently) about its long runway.

Shaheen were originally meant to operate from DSA, I believe the airline even publicly announced it, before a move to LBA was decided (presumably due to the larger Pakistani population there). I don't think the management at DSA were impressed with Shaheen after that so I imagine they'd be quite cautious if they were to ever deal with them again.

bmi regional will have seven aircraft available this winter...

Something tells me that if it isn't BMI Regional, FlyBe could be a good contender....

Or are we overlooking capabilities of other airlines such as Jet2...?

I think a Leeds - Copenhagen would be a good contender for recommencement by the bmi-regional. They us to get good loads on the service before it was dropped. It could also be done without having to introduce a second aircraft to the base by better utilising the current 1x Embrear 135 between its 2x daily Brussels duties.
The only down side would be not been able to offer interlining with SAS now they don't have a codeshare agreement since they withdrew from Star Alliance.

I would say that the rumoured Edinburgh and Newquay service would be more suited to the likes of either Loganair/Flybe using a Saab 340 or Eastern Airways with a Jetstream 41. But no airlines were mentioned.

It all sounds promising and one thing that could help, Is the fact that Loganair already operate a Glasgow-Newquay route for flybe with a Saab 340 about 3 or 4 times a week while flybe do a daily Dash 8, Edinburgh-Newquay service. Also Newquay Airport recently announced that they are actively talking to about 12 different airlines regarding opening up new route to the Southwest.

I'd imagine the lack of interlining at CPH would be a bit of a pain for those wanting to travel further (which would most likely be with SAS).

As to NQY, the airport is probably pushing to replace the flights that Air Southwest ran. I think i the past (3-4 years ago?) Jet2 flew there in the summer.

I notice Qatar airways have said they starting Birmingham Doha and 2 unamed uk airports what about LBA

Mid east flights expected to expand from the UK over the next 5 - 10 years, so its a medium term objective for the airport, but I don't think anything is expected in the short term.

Our runway length will prevent any regular long haul operations, at least until the next generation aircraft are in service.

Long haul is a very general term. It all depends on the aircraft type and destination. Flights to Hong Kong no, flights to Dubai or similar might be a possiblity.

New York
Dubai
Orlando

are the main long haul routes Leeds really need. With the launch of the 787 and soon A350 these aircraft will enable us to unlock these routes to Leeds as these aircraft are suited for the operation.

I think your more likely to get ethiad than Qatar.

A few weeks ago, there was a Business Supplement to the Yorkshire Post with an article about the airport which quoted the routes to Pula,Copenhagen and eastern Europe were in the pipeline

I was told something the other day and was really just wondering what people's thoughts might be about another (Unnamed) airline competing against Eastern Airways on the Aberdeen route?

I'm not saying it will happen, But i'm also not saying it wont happen. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Pula, Copenhagen, Warsaw and Bratislava have all been heavily considered by a certain airline. There are still gaps to be filled in next summer's timetable so maybe once all the routes are on sale, there may some slots for 2/3x weekly flights to some of the above destinations. Well apart from Pula that's about to be announced anyway.

I personally thought that the lot that have bought bmi regional may be interested in opening up ABZ-LBA as ABZ is regional's HQ? Personally I'd rather see Eastern stay on the route as they seem pretty loyal and operate even with 1 or 2 passengers on a flight. If it was regional, (unless they get in a whole new operations department) I'm sure we would see way more cancellations and combined flights than Eastern. That's just my opinion though.

Someone on dried plum mentioned a rumour about Wizz pulling out of DSA to Manchester.

Last night I saw a massive advert in Krakow for the re-branded eurolot.com with quite a few new international routes also with jet equipment. Fares from 38GBP.
LOT it seems at last is waking up and smelling the coffee. They have allowed Wizz and Ryanair to dominate their home market.
Aviation in Poland has been strangled for many years by state run LOT.
I wondered if eurolot.com would look at airports like LBA because many routes are still unserved.
Many Poles who now use Ryanair may also prefer to use their home airline eurolot.com if the fares are competitive.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
