Rumours about new destinations or airlines?

I can see the Toronto route with Air Transat happening as they can operate the route with Airbus A310's and maybe the odd A330. I'm surprised that no has mentioned Budapest with Ryanair as that proved to be a popular route.

Would the fact Air Transat have just pulled Newcastle and Exeter, as well as not increasing BHX past its current 1 weekly flight despite reported load factors of 97% not put paid to any hope of an LBA route?

spoke today to a friend (who runs a travel agents in leeds) is view is bhx does not affect lba in any way,as for newcastle and exeter his view is the yield could be poor,if lba could get the tour operator to offer lba then air transat would come to lba, the same travel agent is always on to the tour operator about a lba as they are always getting enquirys about the route.

Ryanair have recently cancelled the BHX-Budapest route over a falling out with BUD airport. It's a shame as although it was only 2x weekly it was a popular route.

I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't saying that because BHX is served, it means LBA wont be. I meant that BHX has been served for a good few years, ad is around 97% full for the whole season. Therefore, if Air Transat are unwilling to upgrade a route that is so well used, what chance does LBA have of starting at all?

But Air Transat do use a tour operator, 2 in fact. Air Transat Holidays and Canadian Affair, the latter having quite a large following in the UK, so that point you raise is rather moot.

NCL being pulled i must admit is worrying. If Newcastle's catchment area cannot support the route then i have doubt's about Leeds. I know LBA's catchment is larger than NCL but Newcastle does'nt have Manchester 50 miles down the road with existing Canadian services! We must also take into account Air Transat with Canadian affair are increasing there offering at manchester for 2013 so i think we may have to wait a little longer for a route to Canada.

Another route on the list for when the economy improves....

True but with the increasing popularity of interlining passengers through the likes of KLM's hub at Amsterdam and BA's hub at Heathrow among others, airlines such as Air Transat will need to consider more regional departure points if they are going to survive. Airlines such as Easyjet, Ryanair and Jet2 have transformed the way scheduled short-haul market operates with a massive focus on local regional departures because this is what customers are demanding. Focusing on two or three airports around the country doesn't work anymore and it is my view that this is starting to happen with long-haul traffic too. Look at how Emirates has transformed the long haul market offering flights from MAN, NCL and BHX to the world.

Its a nice theory Aviador, but the question is, if more regional airports will gain long haul links, then why are 2 regional airports having their links cut by the very airline being talked about here?

What about the likelihood of aer lingus regional starting Dublin? Would be nice to see some green back at LBA. Would provide some US connections too.

Aer Arran operating to dublin three times a day on behalf of Air Lingus, i always thought Shannon would be a good route?

have put your reply to the travel agent he is well aware of holiday companys that use air transat, when he put the question to 1 of the companys that use air transport he was told they were well aware of lba,(this was at at a travel show for agents only).also as regards newcastle and exeter being pulled to quote his words there are many reasons why this happens but is mostly the yield factor on the routes.you seem to be obsessed with newcastle and exeter loseing these routes, when and if a deal is done with all concerned
this will have no bearing on other airports gains or losses this is the view of a leeds travel agent who books air transart and assorted travel companys who use them.he also used to book wardair ex lba,my own view of him with 36 years in the travel trade he knows what he is talking about.

I hear Leeds/Bradford maybe on the radar of an ever expanding Istanbul based Star Alliance carrier so to open up a load more long haul connections...

And before anyone shoots me down yes it’s only a rumour at this time and Its wildly known the carrier involved, (TK) Turkish Airlines already operates a 2x daily operation into nearby Manchester...

In reply to the Canada talk, I have just found this http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/rouge.html looks like EDI has secured a Canada link, any chance of LBA or would they prefer MAN?

MAN is, or was (give it hasn't been announced in this round) supposed be launched in 2013, as Air Canada have recruited staff for MAN to start in March. It was due to be launched as the LCC model could work better for MAN, especially with the loss of their connections through LHR due to bmi going.

Hold your horses. Your 'rumour' that you heard wasn't even that!
The rumour you are referring to was purely speculation by the poster on another site, that due to Turkish expanding into smaller markets, he wondered if LBA could be in with a shout. He wasn't at all suggesting Turkish were even looking at LBA.

I have heard a pretty credible rumour at work today. Jet2 are soon to announce their first continental European base! The popular mainland spain airports are thought to be favoured as they have year round traffic.

I know this doesn't affect LBA directly but seen as Jet2 is our home based airline I thought I'd post it here.

I'm going for Malaga (AGP).

Well if Jet2 do set up a base in Europe as you say LBA787 and it ends up been Spanish I would say both Alicante (ALC) or nearby Murcia (MJV) would be a good bet as well.

It's will be Spain as thats jet2's largest market. They also have invested the most into theses airports with their own ground handling.

Your right lbaspotter ALC and MJV are possible too I went for AGP as I believe it's there busiest route.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
