Wales football team qualified for the World Cup playoffs finishing 2nd in their group. They'll now have a home semi final. Possible opposition are Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Ireland. From a Cardiff Airport point of view Ireland would be the best option due to it's proximity and it being an international derby.

Bosnia and Herzegovina will be Wales opposition for the World Cup playoff semi final and then Italy/Northern Ireland in the final if Wales gets to it. Hopefully Cardiff will see some charters from Bosnia.

The largest airline is TUI with 56 weekly departures, then comes Ryanair with 19 weekly departures, KLM with 14 weekly departures, Aer Lingus with 7 weekly departures and WestJet with 4 weekly departures. Approximately 33,000 seats a week onsale during peak S26 an approximate 10% growth on S25.

There's still time for them especially a route starting in June. Keeping my fingers crossed for Mallorca.

I notice today that there is a flight into CWL today from Arvidsjaur in Sweden, the same day as Business Wales is reporting a two day visit to Wales by the UK Ambassador to Sweden, with the aim of boosting trade between the two countries, could be just coincidence of course, but it may lead to better things with a bit of luck.

I don't think it really helps the smaller airports attract airlines and routes, especially routes that help with inbound tourism and business, when politicians in London whack up the taxes. This won't effect route development in London but may well at the smaller regional airports especially ones who are trying to get routes off a certain Irish airline!

It has 3 proposed venues. The National Stadium and Cardiff City stadium in Cardiff and the Racecourse ground in Wrecsam.
