So let me get this right. We get trains running to the LBA parkway station from mid to late 2020's then from sometime in the 2040's we finally end up with Trams running right up to the terminal.

Why do we always do things backwards up North?

Hell I wouldn't be surprised this new super duper tram system will be axed by the incoming government in the next round of spending cut, which we all know will be coming for sure!

Whilst agreeing even phase one seems unlikely, I could well see an airport link being part of phase two since it would also be on the Horsforth and Headingley line which are in themselves huge traffic generators?

It certainly should be, although the 'rubbish transport links' has long been the stock excuse given why LBA shouldn't grow. Imagine! A parkway station with through trains to Leeds, Harrogate, York, Bradford, and maybe even Sheffield , plus a tram to Leeds, Horsforth, & Guiseley plus the bus services. The airports knockers would need to find a new excuse why LBA can't grow - one that doesn't clearly identify them for what they really are. Self centred NIMBYs.

Flyer Buses service changes to routes A2 & A3 in Bradford from June 9th, this is most likely due to the traffic kaos in Bradford city centre and the continuing closure of the bus station.

Has anyone else noticed that after next weekends service changes the is no A1 flyer bus service from the airport to Leeds after 10pm Monday to Thursday?

I can see it’s going to cause carnage.

Ridiculous from a customer service point of view but no doubt to reduce losses. Personally I think the Flyer service is going downhill despite the new buses on order. I suppose though this is because after that time there are very few passengers using the bus, the vast majority using their own car, being picked up or using a taxi. Even if they catch a bus into Leeds, they won't go much further if there are no connecting buses or trains to get home. Same for Bradford , Harrogate or Otley.

But one bus route in isolation doesn't work unless you live along the route or in the city. if you don't, you need connecting transport. If that's not there, which it often isn't in sleepy Yorkshire after 11.30pm, then there's no point in travelling from the airport by bus. So people don't. They take their car, take a taxi, or get picked up. If the Council or Mayor had their way, passengers would be walking or cycling, no doubt dragging their luggage behind them.

Im going to be using the A3 flyer bus service from shipley this sunday coming upto LBA, but does it still operate at the same times on a sunday? Mon-fri its 20 past and 10 to the hr out of shipley.
So for myself its a very handy service as i park my car at the folks place in shipley then a 5min walk to the bus stop, saves having to pay the £6 drop off charge at LBA and a bit of fuel!

I I know what you mean but an Arrow taxi just going to Guiseley costs over £20 from the airport so heaven knows how much it costs to further afield. So baring that in mind a bus to Leeds and catching an onward taxi from there is going to get you much further.

Looks like the A3 only runs hourly to the airport from Shipley at :20 past the hour - every day of the week (incl weekends).

Bristol Airport is similar to LBA with the airport on a remote hill well outside of the city, and in June it posted record numbers of travellers using the Bristol airport bus services - over 100,000 in the month. This included 20,000 staff trips (as they’ve made it free to use for staff). So clearly using the bus hasn’t fallen out of favour as the numbers using the services are up by a fifth in comparison to last year.

In the larger urban areas, not everyone has their own car, or if they do, wants to then pay for parking or getting a taxi all the way out to the airport - so a good bus service is key, and the better it is, the more people tend to use it. The main bus service from Bristol to the airport runs 24/7 and at peak times, every 12 minutes. LBA shouldn’t be cutting services or shortening the operating times, they need to be doing the opposite. I’m sure the more money LBA is willing to invest, the better the services, and the more people will use the bus?

Very true. The taxis are a rip off. But I doubt enough people do as you suggest to keep the bus service viable even with a subsidy which is a shame with as many as 15 inbound flights between 2300 and 0400. That just gives taxi companies even more chance to charge silly money doesn't it?

They charged my daughter £35 to Ilkley….robbing sods.
