Rarely do I read, nor believe, such drivel from a Trinity Mirror Group publication/website (now Reach plc) - but bad press, is bad press...

Bristol Airport ranked as worst in UK for 2022 in new study
The Trinity Mirror Group publish some right old claptrap and this kind of nonsense is published throughout their publications nationally. In any case us brits like to have a good old moan about anything, especially if it's queue related.

press is all bad for the current queues out of the airport and knock on issues. Hope it doesn’t impact them longer term with passengers..
I understand there is a workforce crisis (everywhere in every sector) however it does make you think that the terminal really isn’t that big to manage the morning rush now let alone in a few years. Recovery seems to be coming fast at the airport.. we really need the expansion plan sealed and delivery of it starting quickly..

Do you think the cost of living crisis will enable it to happen? I think most people are feeling the pinch now.

Who knows.. 🤷‍♂️ it’s bound to have an impact but people have lots of pent up demand to travel and do things.. only time will tell..

Flew into Bristol last night. Absolute chaos with no ground staff to marshal aircraft onto stands, off load passengers and very poor passenger control around border control.. I’m very pro the airport and it’s plans for expansion but they really do need to think about how they achieve this and improve the passenger experience. The facilities all in all aren’t good, not by comparison to other airports. Finishes look cheap, walkways are empty, grey and look tired (it isn’t that old) and the terminal isn’t fit for purpose at key points throughout the day with high passenger loads going through the terminal and many flights departing. It’s really underwhelming as a gateway to the southwest and for many going to wales.
Sorry to post that but I think it needs to up its game slightly based on my last trip through.

Well said , like you I am very supportive of Bristol and its expansion Plans, I’ve used it many times this year with only one short delay but it does get very crowded and there are not enough facilities to cope with the amount of passengers.

There was a spotters website that usually published the Mayflys. They stopped doing it during covid, have they resumed it now?

I am pretty sure AYT with LS is 6x weekly!

On the holiday app it gives you 6x weekly, only 3x on the flights only! I think they do that to encourage more people to book their full holiday with them!

They do. they reserve some of their flights for holiday only customers.

Thanks! Corrected the list!

I know there is still lots of movement but do we have a feel for based aircraft? So total needing night stands?
Is LH increasing? Did I hear rumours of Munich or was I dreaming?? Also Düsseldorf - not sure why that hasn’t appeared. Regular summer charter out of Newquay and we no the Germans like the West Country.
Finally I see Qatar have been slow on bringing CWL back online… are there any plans? Do we think it’s wishful thinking they may have considered a swap across the river?

QR is chronically short of aircraft due to the A350 groundings so they will be prioritising the remaining fleet on key routes. I doubt CWL is a priority.

Sadly I think the A321 Neo order cancellation will further make the chances slim.

Have we confirmed fleet sizes for airlines based at Bristol for this summer? What can they physically overnight at the airport?

Aircraft overnighting at BRS - summer 2023

I make 36x overnighting aircraft based at BRS in summer 2023.

easyJet - 18 (current schedule actually requires 19x aircraft but is incomplete)
2x A319s / 14x A320s / 2x A321

Jet2 - 7
7x B738

TUI - 5
5x B738

Ryanair - 5
5x B738

KLM - 1
1x E190

I think I can count 33x actual stands which can handle the above aircraft - however there is also "off stand parking" available which is for last in / first out aircraft. These parking spots block in other aircraft (for example an aircraft parking in a cul-de-sac taxyway).

The old terminal building has been demolished over the last few months and I assume new stands are to be built on the now flattened area. How many stands, and when they will be completed by - I'm sure someone on here has the answer?

Yeah I did wonder what more airside ground they could find to increase with planning to extend to 10m passengers. It ain’t big unless they go they other side? Maybe they need to put ATC over there and use some of that area?

A quick look at Google maps and I can count 32 stands. But GM still shows the area of the old terminal building as demolished but not replaced with stands. They may fit 2-3 more stands in that place if reconfigured. Still not enough stands though.

Even the 2018 masterplan diagram only shows 34 stands.

There are currently 35 north-side stands available for use without blocking other aircraft in and capacity for up to 5 more aircraft parked in the cul-de-sacs. In May 2023 two new north facing stands, 17 and 18, will be commissioned on the site of the old terminal buildings.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
