End of an era, given the number of years the bmi Regional (in all it's guises) have served LBA, together with the years mainline bmi/British Midland flew from here too. I've used this service myself previously for a Star Alliance transfer via BRU and was an excellent experience.

If there is a slim hope of another carrier considering the route, then perhaps Eastern may be the one which could offer the most hope of making it a success. Given that the Star transfer feed has died and the route must now largely be relying on business travellers and MEP's who are less price sensitive than many, it might suit them. A J41 may not be as appealing to customers as a 135/145, but convenience might still keep this type of customer using the route from LBA. Additionally, the far lower operating costs of a J41 on the route may help the cause in trying to turn a profit, given Eastern generally survive on modest, but high yielding, passenger loads on many of their routes.

Agree on all of that ChurchFenton except the bit about MEPs they normally book stby and then ask for an upgrade to business because of who they are. Believe me I know its true.

good call on Eastern. I hope the route team are straight on it.

Even Ryanair to Brussels Charleroi an option if the passengers are there.

Wouldn't that be a better option than BMI anyway?

It's hard to imagine Ryanair being a better option than pretty much anything!

With respect cmj, Ryanair are a vital component now in the future of LBA and provide Yorkshire passengers with destinations not provided by any other carrier. They have their place and if they didn't they would go bust. You know what you are getting with them, but it doesn't stop many thousands of passengers booking with them from LBA and huge numbers across Europe, so yes, Ryanair to Charleoi would be very welcome if the demand was there - which I doubt.

I'm starting to wonder how long BMIr will survive. They are opening some bonkers looking routes. Sadly, LBA is not in their plans but, frankly, the demise of the Brussels route has been long coming. Like all the other routes on BMI's LBA network, it was gradually made less and less attractive. Lufthansa took the heart and soul out of that airline and I am struggling to see it return.

I think they are emulating Eastern somewhat, and focussing more upon niche routes where there is perhaps guaranteed high yielding point to point traffic. If that is the case then DSA may not be so likely for as long as they lack the codeshare of an alliance partner, despite what I said in an earlier post.

Will be interesting to see what else they may have planned in the future.

I think Newcastle to Brussels is what they may want the Leeds based aircraft for as they have muted a Newcastle operation in the past and that route is coming up for grabs. In my opinion they are a go nowhere airline at this stage unless they develop a strategy and get some media coverage as just like Eastern I have never seen any kind of coverage other than on the Leeds airport webpage.

Bye bye bmi regional. The a/c positions out for the final time tonight and with that the base will close. May I wish all my friends well for the future o what laughs we've had!

Sad day for me I really will miss them.

The last BMI Embrear got a water canon salute upon arrival last night, I took a distant picture of it from Otley Chevin, the picture is uploaded to the LBA photo album if anyone fancies a look.

What a shame to see them leave , part of LBA history now departed , hopefully our doors will remain
always open for them.

We have had our " ups and downs " over the years with them.

Great memories with them commuting over the years , diversions to Teeside , scary landings on the "baby" DC-9. Amazing hot breakfasts on full flights and great laughs with the crews.

Sad to see them leave.

I agree - excellent picture!

What are the high buildings in the background beyond the airport?

The white pointy thing in the middle is the Parkinson Building of Leeds University.

The rusty looking thing to the left of it is Broadcasting House if I am not mistaken.

The building on the very far left with a sticky up metal thing on it is the 'Kremlin' (DSS building) on Quarry Hill.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
