Personally I think it's nuts having two sizeable bases both within the same region. It is forcing people to travel long distances now from the NE and Yorkshire if they want to fly with easyJet. It's a shame they don't consider such things when making these decisions. Logic would suggest one base in the NW and one this side of the hills, but clearly easyJet don't think that way. Very bad news though for NCL as they don't really have a lot in terms of low cost flights going forward do they? It seems to be mainly package holiday flights orientated, although if course Jet2 do still offer seat only flights, but not really low cost unless you book a year in advance.
I hope this isn't the way things are going to go for regional airports.

You can certainly see LS jumping on the back of services like NCL - BCN for next summer and adding capacity to Malaga / Palma etc but with my professional head on I would suggest LS fares are probably more the price they they should be to allow the airline to be sustainable and some of the low fares we have seen have been triggered by over capacity pre Pandemic and now obviously airlines just want us back on board buying from the trolley!

The thread is starting to go off topic. Please use the Newcastle EasyJet thread to continue this conversation.

LPL base was the first one before MAN wasn't it? They couldn't get into MAN as MAN would not allow them so they choose LPL as the alternative. I'm lead to believe that the LPL-BFS route is the busiest on the network and let's be honest is probably profitable too. Liverpool has Irish heritage and with easyJet providing the link i imagine there is some quite important business links between Belfast and Liverpool. Christ with easyJet's crazy pre pandemic schedule, you could leave LPL around 9am, go to BFS for an hours meeting and be back in LPL all before 5pm.

LPL was I think Easyjets second base after LTN. It was instrumented by the then MD of Liverpool Airport at the time Rod Hill . At that time Low Cost airlines was a wholly new concept, with quite a lot of scepticism that airlines like Easyjet would last. I seem to remember the first routes were NCE and AMS followed by GVA. LPL-BFS is a mega busy route in normal times, can be 8 a day. The LPL base opened some years before they opened a MAN base.

With such a short flight time & block time i guess you can squeeze in 8(16) rotations a day. You could probably load the fuel up for both LPL BFS and BFS LPL shortening the turn around time in BFS. Who knows the set up. LBA BFS 8 times a day is something we could dream of.

As you said the big Irish heritage fuels the demand.

Do we know that @LBA4EVER?

Whilst there are some good business routes, the majority are bucket & spade trunk routes operating from the EU bases, whilst some (CFU and ALC as the two examples) are definitely a stab in the dark, see if it works, but that is all. Reading the BRS easyJet and BHX easyJet there are is a common theme. It feels like easyJet are responding to Jet2 going in and setting up shop at BRS. The other theme seems to be the fleet have some slack due to the on going situation and therefore this is a bit of a "trial" with like I say bucket & spade routes which are cash cows. They will fill them without many questions asked.

They are probably just experimenting with the market. I think this is a stab in the dark and to utilise the fleet with cash cow routes (they know they can fill them profitably). In my opinion I don't think we could have attracted them regardless at the moment and that is down to the current situation rather than the infrastructure.

I still feel once aviation picks up again we should see belfast announced by easyjet, like you say though the routes announced at bhx are dead certains to fill up their aircraft and as far as im aware i dont believe bhx is to be a base at present? but still they have easyjet onboard now. Im betting as well that easyjet have spare aircraft now due to covid, many routes will currently not been profitable. An easyjet presense at LBA around the scale of Monarch had would be lovely though! :)

Completely agree with Sherburnflyer92, its boring suggesting LBA is missing out again due to infrastructure, we have been over this a lot of times, LS announced 2 new routes this week from LBA, MAN, BRS, STN, BHX. Did NCL & EMA miss out due to infrastructure? no.

They don't; it is what you could class as a focus city. Enough flights for a big presence but no aircraft overnight to call it a base - very American.

I want easyJet like you however not the same size/scale as Monarch. Easyjet have a tendency to want to be No.1/No.2 player in the markets they serve and that would require a good enough based units to take on the Jet2 (in the Lions nest) and Ryanair. Or at a cost of pushing out Ryanair. easyJet also have a tendency to close down those smaller size bases turning them into what you could class as focus cities - a large enough presence but not a base - or nothing at all.

Sadly easyJet don't seem to like smaller 2/3 aircraft sized bases with majority of them in the passed now been shut - SEN NCL EMA come to mind. Of course the former two were down to current climate/conditions but it would feel like NCL was on the agenda for a while.

All we both can wish for is for easyJet to turn LBA into more of a focus city. Especially now they have bases overseas to provide some lift on the trunk beach routes - PMI/FAO/AGP, Could even W pattern into ALC, whilst operating some of those key important business routes. They have a large enough presence to also operate some Italian routes. Let the Canary Islands and Greece be dominated by Jet2/Ryanair.

THis is absolutely fantastic news. And if BA do continue, or expand on BHD then I feel Belfast in general is very well covered. Not sure where this all leaves any BHD plans for T3 though?

This is good news but only if it doesnt affect the viability of the EI service. 3 flights a day are a must for business travellers and I cant see easyjet ever increasing to this level with the equipment they use.

Imagine if Eastern do it as well on an ATR72. 3 operators would be amazing as long as they all make money. I agree though that there is a need for a day return, both ways as things gradually improve.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
